Research shows that the Animal Welfare Act doesn't consider them animals and as such they're not protected under the law. It's surprising to see who isn't covered under the Act, including farm animals used for food. Tis sad, considering Monday was World Farm Animal Day.

Are Mice Animals?
It's World Animal Day so I caught myself a shmousey. Shmousies are small animals … or are they?

Shmousies are supposed to be caught by kitties, CK...that's their only role on this planet! Happy World Animal Day anyhoo...
ReplyDeleteIt's lucky for Flynn that mousies don't come under that legislation or he would have spent most of his life behind bars.

That's terrible :( Mice are protected at our house...humane traps followed by a trip outside!
ReplyDeleteUm, I thought mice were either food, or companion animals for kitties. (I'm still trying to figure out which!)
ReplyDeleteI've only had fuzzy mice and they aren't on the list either CK!
ReplyDeleteWe think mice are animals...but not as smart as us.
ReplyDeleteHarry says they are snax
ReplyDeleteGreat job catching that mousie! You really showed it who's boss. It is strange that mice aren't considered animals. They seem a lot like animals to me. That is one of the things that Manna and Dexter like about them most.

I thought mice wuz animals - and a snack.
ReplyDeleteMice are for chasing, and playing with.... and eating.....
ReplyDeleteThat is sad. No living creature should have to suffer. XO
ReplyDeleteDear Ms CK,
ReplyDeleteFarm animals should have a special day. Cows are really quite intelligent, as are sheep and horses. And the pig down the street in Midway was an escape artist (but he always went to the house with the apple tree because the lady there gave him apples). Smoke and Joe, Marg's donkeys ran for president and vice president (and I think they would have done a great job!)
I, Marvelous am glad they got a day!

That's cause shmousies are really zoms. Yes, it's true. They'd like to think they're anipals but they're just walking, squeakin' zoms! Good for you for catching one! But keep watch 'cause there could be a zom nest nearby! Tee hee hee! -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews
ReplyDeleteNow that is interesting!!! Mice should be called an animal - they have 4 legs and a furry coat - they cvertainly are not human!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that seems a little backwards.
ReplyDeleteThe house sparrow is not protected by the Migratory Bird Act. I think there may be a few other invasive species that are not, either.
