DISASTER
AND
PREVENTION
𝕴𝖓𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖉𝖚𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓
Disasters are sudden events, like
earthquakes or industrial
accidents, that harm people,
property, and the environment.
They can disrupt communities
and cause serious losses.
Types of Disasters
A Natural Disasters is a sudden, damaging
event caused by natural forces, such as
earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods. It can lead
to loss of life, property damage, and
environmental harm. While these events are
uncontrollable, preparedness and planning can
help reduce their impact.
Human-Made
Disasters:
A human-made disaster is a harmful event
caused by human actions, leading to damage to
people, property, and the environment. Prevention
and safety measures are essential to reduce their
impact.

Examples: Industrial accidents, oil spills, nuclear

accidents. Impact: Damage to health, economy,
and the environment.
Preventi
on
Prevention is essential in minimizing the impact of
both natural and human-made disasters. Effective
prevention involves risk assessment, safety planning,
community awareness, and strong infrastructure. By
identifying potential risks early, creating emergency
plans, educating the public, and enforcing safety
standards, communities can significantly reduce the
damage caused by disasters. Preparedness also helps
ensure a faster response and recovery, protecting
lives, property, and the environment.
Types of Prevention
1. Risk Assessment and Early Warning Systems - Identifying
areas at high risk for disasters and using technology to detect
early signs allows communities to prepare and respond
quickly. Early warning systems, like weather alerts and
seismic monitors, help reduce the impact by providing timely
information.
2. Infrastructure and Building Standards - Constructing
buildings and infrastructure that can withstand disasters,
such as earthquake-resistant structures, helps minimize
damage. Enforcing safety codes and regulations is essential
4. Public Education and Community Preparedness - Educating
communities about disaster preparedness, such as evacuation
plans and emergency supplies, empowers people to act quickly
and safely during an event. Regular drills and public
awareness campaigns are effective tools for preparedness.
5. Policy and Regulation - Governments play a role in
prevention by setting policies and regulations for safety
standards, land use, and industrial practices. Enforcing these
rules helps reduce human-made risks and promotes safer
practices across industries.

Each type of prevention works together to reduce risks, protect

lives, and limit damage to communities and the environment.
