well as meaning to life.”-Emeth and
Greenhut (1991)
CARL JUNG (1875-1961)
One of the few classical thinkers and
-

psychologists during his time who seriously

put forward the concept of wholeness in
theory and practice.
- for him, MAN IS ESSENTIALLY A WHOLE
BEING.
-He suggested 3 ways to becoming whole.
3 ways to becoming whole

1. Man’s striving toward self-

realization.
2. Awareness of one’s potentials.
3. recognition of personal uniqueness.
GESTALT THEORY OF
WHOLENESS
-Man is a whole being and functioning unit.
what this means?
-It means that how our body works affects our wholeness.
example: psychological distress or mental problems are
caused by split self.
What is split-self?
-the different individual aspects are not in balance or in
harmony.
ASPECTS OF HOLISTIC
DEVELOPMENT:
DEVELOPING THE
WHOLE PERSON
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
-PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT points to the body and its functioning.

-attention to your body is important as it is your key instrument in working out your plans.
 HOW TO KEEP YOUR PHYSICAL ASPECT HEALTHY?

1. Watch what you eat.

A.) It is important to eat nutritious foods.

-Nutritious food gives you energy and good health.

-The kind of food you eat does not only affect your health, it also affects your mood, mental well
being and energy.

Example: chocolates and coffee are energy boosters.

Sweets can make you hyper. But much intake of sweets or coffee can induce migraines.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
 Major nutrients we need: (by Throop and Castellucci)

-protein, for growth, maintenance and repair of tissues. (ex. Fish, meat, eggs, dairy products, tofu)

-carbohydrates for energy and dietary fibers for digestion. (ex. Cereal, rice, bread, fruits and
vegetables)

-vitamins and minerals, for life and growth (ex. Calcium for strong bones, vitamin D for absorption
of calcium, Sodium for fluid balance, Vitamin B complex for nerves, Vitamin E for healthy skin)

-water to help transport the nutrients throughout the body and remove waste products. It also
helps regulate body temperature.

-fats (preferably unsaturated, like Omega-3 as they are healthier to store energy, provide
insulation and dissolve certain vitamins.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

B.) KEEPING GOOD EATING HABITS

-a nutritionist, once said: “Eat
breakfast like a king, lunch like a
prince, and dinner like a pauper.”
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
2. KEEP YOURSELF FIT AND STRONG
-Exercise.
-When you regularly exercise, you burn more calories and you
maintain a healthy weight.
-If you are overweight, you are prone to health problems like
hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular diseases.
-Being underweight, makes you at risk for developing problems like
osteoporosis.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
3. AVOID ABUSE OF YOUR BODY
A.) Get good sleep at night.
- As our body works hard, it also needs time to rest.
-Sleep gives the body the much needed opportunity to
recover energy spent on your activities.
-lack of sleep may result in fatigue, irritability, or
inefficiency in performance.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
3. AVOID ABUSE OF YOUR BODY

B.) Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol.

body, alters behavior, and changes mood that is
damaging to relationship, school performance, and
quality of works.
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
-COGNITIVE refers to patterns of thinking which include reasoning, ability to learn,
remembering, and solving problems.

-as a learner hoping to have good career someday, the development of your
cognitive skills is important.
What are the 3 important cognitive skills you need to develop:

1. remembering

2. critical thinking

3. problem solving
REMEMBERING
REMEMBERING is a function of the brain that depend on
short-term or long-term memory. If you cannot
remember learning becomes impossible.
3 ways to improve your memory: (by Throop and
Castellucci)
1. REPETITION
2. ORGANIZATION
3. MNEMONICS
3 ways to improve your memory
1. REPETITION
-Going over a material repeatedly
improves your memory.
- As the old saying goes ,”practice makes
perfect”.
-If you keep repeating something, it
increases your chances of remembering it.
3 ways to improve your memory
2. ORGANIZATION
-Organizing things or ideas in your head helps.

or important that will help you to easily retrieve the
information from your memory. (Ex. Classify things
according to their common features.)
-making a list or notes is a time-tested strategy to help
you remember.
3 ways to improve your memory
3. MNEMONICS
-Is a device that aids your memory.
Acronyms and rhymed words are kinds
of mnemonics that work.
CRITICAL THINKING
CRITICAL THINKING-comes from the word kritikos (meaning, discerning judgment)
and criterion (meaning, standards).

-Critical thinking implies the discerning judgment based on standards. It requires

ability to reason out (logical thinking), infer, analyze, interpret, and explain.

FACT- is something that is true and can be proven.

OPINION- is based on your values and assumptions that may not be necessarily
be true for others.

-TO THINK CRITICALLY, YOU HAVE TO AVOID PERSONAL BIASES THAT CLOUD
YOUR MIND.
PROBLEM-SOLVING

PROBLEM-SOLVING, depend much

on your critical thinking ability.
A 5-STEP CRITICAL THINKING GENERAL
PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS

I=Identify the problem and set priorities. (step 1)
D=Determine relevant information and deepen
understanding. (step 2)
E= Enumerate options and anticipate consequences. (step
