RedBus is a pioneering online bus ticketing platform that
has significantly transformed the landscape of the Indian
bus travel industry. Founded in 2006 by Phanindra
Sama, Sudhakar Pasupunuri , and Charan Padmaraju ,
RedBus aimed to address the various challenges faced by
passengers in booking bus tickets and navigating the
complexities of the Indian bus travel system.
CHALLENGES IN THE INDIAN BUS TRAVEL

• Lack of Information: Passengers struggled to find
comprehensive information about bus routes, timings,
and availability.

• Booking Hassles: Booking bus tickets was


inconvenient due to the absence of centralized
platforms, leading to long queues and uncertainty.

• Unreliable Services: The industry lacked


standardization, leading to issues with reliability,
safety, and transparency in service.

• The Redbus success story founded with the three key people Phanindra Sama,
Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri

• The RedBus.in founders story comprises three engineers from BITS Pilani are
the founders of the Red bus.

• Phanindra Sama's personal experience of struggling to book a bus ticket to reach


home for Diwali ignited the idea behind RedBus.

THE JOURNEY OF REDBUS SUCCESS
STORY
• In January 2006, the three started working on the
solution. They built software and tried to sell it. But
that doesn’t pay off.
• Then they came to know about TiE Entrepreneurship
Acceleration Program, Bangalore. They met the TiE
team and discuss their plan.

• The TiE assigned three mentors for them. They gave


the idea of starting their own business and gave them
assignments about the project. It is like a survey.
• They started it in August 2006 with only one
operator, 5 seats with 5 lakh rupees.
• The Redbus startup story brought a revolution in
the bus industry.
• They built a website with a name, redbus.in.
• After redbus.in founded, they went through the
hardships and seasons of suffering throughout
the whole journey before tasting success.
