PERIMETER
Perimeter is the distance covered along the
boundary forming a closed figure when you go
round the figure once.

Fence around playground

Frame around a picture

Perimeter= Sum of all sides

Track around stadium
Find the perimeter of the given figures-

1)

Perimeter= Sum of all sides

Perimeter= Sum of all sides
= 0.9+1+0.4+0.5+1.4= 4.2m
= 4+2+1+5= 12cm

3)

Perimeter= Sum of all sides

= 5+7+13+8+6= 39cm
PERIMETER OF A SQUARE
Square is a 4- sided
figure with all sides
equal.

Perimeter= Sum of all sides

Perimeter of a Square = Sum of all sides
= 4 × Side
PERIMETER OF A SQUARE
Perimeter of a Square= 4 × Side

1) Find the perimeter of a square whose side is 15cm.

Side of square = 15 cm
Perimeter of the square = 4 × Side
= 2 × 15= 60 cm
PERIMETER OF A SQUARE
Perimeter of a Square= 4 × Side

2) Josh wants to put a lace border all around a square table cover 11m long. Find the length
of the lace required by Josh.
Length of the square table cover = 11 m
Josh wants to put a lace border all around the table cover. Therefore, the length of the lace required will be
equal to the perimeter of the rectangular table cover.

Now, perimeter of the square table cover= 4 × Side= 4 × 11= 44 m

PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE
Rectangle is a 4- sided
figure with opposite sides
equal.
Length

Width Width Perimeter= Sum of all sides

Perimeter of a Rectangle = Sum of all sides
Length = Length+ Width+ Length+ Width
= 2 × Length + 2 × Width
PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE
Perimeter of a Rectangle = 2 × (Length + Breadth)

1) Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 15 cm and 10 cm respectively.
Length = 15 cm
Breadth = 10 cm
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × (length + breadth)
= 2 × (15 cm + 10 cm)
= 2 × (25 cm) = 50 cm
PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE
Perimeter of a Rectangle = 2 × (Length + Breadth)

2) An athlete takes 10 rounds of a rectangular park, 50 m long and 25 m wide. Find the total distance covered.

Length of the rectangular park = 50 m

Breadth of the rectangular park = 25 m
Total distance covered by the athlete in one round will be the perimeter of the park.
Now, perimeter of the rectangular park= 2 × (length + breadth)= 2 × (50 m + 25 m)= 2 × 75 m = 150 m

So, the distance covered by the athlete in one round= 150 m.

Therefore, distance covered in 10 rounds = 10 × 150 m
= 1500m
The total distance covered by the athlete is 1500 m.
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Triangle is a 3- sided figure

Types of triangle on the bases of length of sides;

Scalene Triangle Isosceles Triangle Equilateral Triangle

All sides are unequal 2 sides are equal All sides are equal
Perimeter= Sum of all sides Perimeter= Sum of all sides Perimeter= Sum of all sides
= 3 × Side
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Perimeter of a Triangle= Sum of all sides
1) A farmer has a triangular field of side 45m. He wants to fence it with 3 rounds of rope. What is the total
length of rope he must use?
The farmer has to cover three times the perimeter of that field.
Therefore, total length of rope required is thrice its perimeter.
Perimeter of the field = 3 × Side = 3 × 45 = 135m
Total length of rope required = 3 × 135 m = 405 m
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Perimeter of a Triangle= Sum of all sides

2) Find perimeter of an isosceles triangle with equal sides 8 cm each and third side 6 cm.
1st side= 8cm
2nd side= 8cm
3rd side= 6cm
Perimeter= Sum of all sides= 8+8+6= 22cm
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Perimeter of a Triangle= Sum of all sides

3) Two sides of a triangle are 12 cm and 14 cm. The perimeter of the triangle is 36 cm. What is its third side?
Perimeter= Sum of all sides
= 12+14+ 3rd side= 36cm
= 26= 3rd side= 36cm
3rd side= 36- 26= 10cm
CIRCUMFERENCE OF A CIRCLE
Circle is a closed figure
where distance from centre
to each point on boundary
is equal.
Radius (r)

Circumference of a Circle= 2 π r

Π= 3.14 or 22/7

Diameter

Diameter= 2×Radius
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Circumference of a Circle= 2 π r
1) What is the circumference of a circular disc of diameter 20 cm (Take Π = 3.14)?
Diameter of the circle (d) = 20 cm
Radius= 20/2= 10cm
Circumference of circle = 2Πr = 2 × 3.14 × 10 cm = 62.8 cm
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Circumference of a Circle= 2 π r

2) A gardener wants to fence a circular garden of radius 21m. Find the length of the rope he needs to
purchase. Also, find the total cost of the rope, if it costs $ 4 per meter. (Take Π = 22/7)

Circumference of circle = 2Πr = 2 × 22/7 × 21 cm = 132 cm

Cost per meter= $ 4
Cost for 262 cm= 132 ×4= $528
PERIMETER OF A TRIANGLE
Circumference of a Circle= 2 π r

3) Simon divides a circular disc of radius 7 cm in two equal parts. What is the perimeter of
each semicircular shape disc?
Circumference of semi circle = ½ × 2Πr
= ½ ×2 × 22/7 × 7 cm = 22 cm

Diameter of the circle = 2r = 2 × 7 cm = 14 cm

Thus, perimeter of each semicircular disc = 22 cm + 14 cm = 36 cm
