TRADITIONAL LITERACY

● Defined as “the quality of being literate;


knowledge of letters; a condition in respect to
education, esp. ability to read and write”.
● It is the building block for all other literacies.
Truly literate people

• Acknowledge that they need to write things


down, talk them out, read widely, listen
critically, and respond articulately.
FUNCTIONAL
LITERACY
The ability to manage daily living and
employment tasks that require reading
skills beyond a basic level.
How is “Functional Literacy” different from “Literacy”?

“Literacy” refers to “Functional Literacy”
