Human Development and Personal
Development

Developmental scientists identified 3 aspects or

domains of human development (Papalia
&Fieldman 2012)
1. Physical development : growth in the body,
brain, motor, sensory skills, and physical
health
2. Cognitive development : capacity to learn, to
speak, to understand and to create
3. Psychosocial development: social interaction
with other people, emotions, and attitudes,
self identity, beliefs, and values
Human Development

It covers the whole lifespan of

human existence
It is influenced by heredity,
environment and maturation
Heredity

- The inborn traits passed on by generations of

offsprings from both sides of the biological
parents’ families

Example: having blue eyes, genetic diseases

Environment

Is the world outside of ourselves and

experiences
Result of contact and interaction with the
external world
Maturation

Is the natural progression of the brain and

the body that affects the cognitive,
psychological, and social dimensions of a
person
It is most pronounced during his childhood
and adolescence stages

development?
