Processes of Research
In an article entitled as the “Overview of
the Research Process” written on 2012, there are six research processes enumerated. These processes are as given. Statement of the Problem
The first process is to
narrow down your topic of interest. Refine your problem into a concise statement. Generating a Hypothesis or Formulating a Research Question The second process is to formulate a concise research questions and research hypotheses. You must specify your research problems into a concise research questions and hypotheses. Review of the Literature and Related Studies
The third process is to
collect and summarize the prior studies that are related and important to your present research study. Sample Selection The fourth process is to determine the sample. Sample refers to the subjects of the study. It is usually a group of people or respondents of the study that represents the whole population. Instrumentatio n The fifth is to appropriately select the tools for the collection and measurement of data. The kind of tools to be utilized depend on the type of research study to be conducted. Data Analysis The last process aims to answer the research questions and hypotheses. This includes statistical techniques for quantitative research and thematic approach for qualitative research. Ethics of Research The observation of ethical standards in conducting a research is highly important in order to ensure the authenticity and fairness of the study. Parveen and Showkat (2017) argue that research ethics is doing what is considered as morally and legally right in a research. 2. The safety of the participants should be of priority. There should 1. An informed consent be consideration of the should be given to the privacy, anonymity and participants. confidentiality of the respondents and participants of the research study. 3. The researcher should be sensitive to the cultural, religious, economic, psychological, spiritual, physiological, biological, political, social and other concerns of the participants of the study. 4. The authorship of the research is highly observed. Every author and contributor to the study must be credited and included in the research output. 5. The researcher must cite the original source of the data and should avoid plagiarism. All forms of rights such as copyrights, intellectual property, patents and among others should take into consideration. 6. The data manipulation, fabrication, falsification and misrepresentation of the results must be avoided. . 7. The researcher must avoid biased information and reveal his personal and financial interest upon the conduct of the research. 8. The research study must be a contribution to the body of knowledge There are eight research ethics which are the informed consent, the safety of the participants as priority, the sensitivity to the background of the participants, the authorship, the source of data, the avoidance of the falsification and manipulation of data, the unveiling of researcher’s biases and the research as a body of knowledge.
