Busbar Trunking System is used to distribute electric power using copper or aluminum busbars housed in enclosures. It provides a flexible and efficient alternative to traditional wiring. Advantages include better heat absorption, flexibility for reconfiguration, lower installation costs, reduced energy losses, and increased safety compared to cable systems. The system works by collecting power from incoming feeders through electrical busbars and distributing it to outgoing feeders. Proper safety precautions must be followed like shutting off power before working, wearing protective equipment, using insulated tools, and exercising caution when connecting or disconnecting components.

Busbar Trunking: System and
electrical safety precaution
Group (28-33) Busbar Trunking System: • Busbar is a metallic strip or bar, typically housed inside switchgear, panel boards and busway enclosures for local high current power distribution. • Busbar Trunking System is the is a system of distributing electric power using copper or aluminium busbar with to prevent the cables from getting damaged due to foreign bodies. • Busbar trunking systems are an essential component of modern electrical distribution systems. They are used to transfer power from a power source to different points of use in a building. • The BTS is commonly used in industrial and commercial buildings as it provides a more flexible and efficient way of distributing power compared to traditional wiring systems. Fig: Traditional way of connecting wires Fig: Connecting with the help of busbar Advantages: • Heat Absorption: Since the design is compact and has a metal casing with well-defined surface, busbars can absorb heat generated while transmissions and distribution of electricity in the walls of the enclosure. The system of cooling is much better than traditional cabling system. • Flexibility: Busbars are more flexible in nature compared to cables in the sense that it can be used in any kind of structure with any configuration. Easy to add or remove sections as needed. • Cost Savings: Busbars can be mounted easily than a cable and incurs a lesser cost of installation than traditional cables. They can also be mounted at a lesser time than traditional cables. • Better Resistance: Busbars have rigid design elements and hence has better resistance than cables, especially in case of short circuits • Reduced Loss of Energy: Busbars have lower resistance than cables. Hence the loss of energy due to transmission and distribution is lower in Busbars. Busbars also have a limited growth of reactive power to operate compared to cable systems. • Ease of Distribution: Busbars help in easy, efficient and safe distribution of line with the junction boxes in places where they are required. Moreover, the location data junction boxes can be changed whenever and where-ever in the future. The junction boxes can be easily increased in the future as well with busbars. • Safe and Secured: Busbars are fitted with a steel casing and cannot be damaged by rodents as compared to cables. How Busbar Trunking System works? • Electrical busbars are conductors or a group of conductors used for collecting electric power from incoming feeders. From there, they distribute the power to the outgoing feeders. • In laymen’s terms, it is a type of electrical junction where all incoming and outgoing electrical currents meet. The bus bar system has an isolator and the circuit breaker which works as follows. In the event of a fault, the circuit breaker trips and the faulty section of the busbar is easily disconnected from the circuit. Fig 1: Busbar Fig 2 Fig 3: Lug angle to connect busbar

This can be done by shutting off the main power switch or breaker. • Wear protective equipment: When working with electrical systems, always wear appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, and a hard hat. • Use insulated tools: When working on the busbar turning system, use insulated tools to prevent electric shock. • Keep the area clean: Ensure that the area around the busbar turning system is clean and free of debris or liquids that could cause a slip or fall. • Use caution when connecting and disconnecting: When connecting or disconnecting components of the busbar turning system, use caution to avoid accidental contact with live components.
