PASSIVE VOICE
Passive Voice is a sentence whose subject is subject to an
activity or deed. In Indonesian, the passive voice has certain
characteristics, namely that it usually begins with the prefix ter-
or di-.

Active : My parents buy a new car this morning.
Passive : The new car is bought by my parents this morning.
Active : My little sister ask the waiter to bring a water.
Passive : The waiter is asked by my little sister to bring a water.
Active : Andi eats sandwich every morning.
Passive : Sandwich is eaten by Andi every morning.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
EXAMPLE :
• Active : Anna is cleaning the living room.
Passive : The living room is being cleaned by Anna.
• Active : They are going to the campus.
Passive : The campus is being gone by them.
• Active : Rani is giving story book to Rita.
Passive : Story book is being given by Rani to Rita.
PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
EXAMPLE :
Active : Someone has used my credit card to buy airline tickets.
Passive : My credit card has been used someone to buy airline tickets.
Active : I have sent the document already.
Passive : The document has been sent mine already
Active : My father has just given some money to me.
Passive : Some money has just been given my father to me.

Passive : A letter will be sent by her this afternoon.
SIMPLE PAST TENSE
EXAMPLE :
• Active : The thief stole his parent’s car last night.
Passive : His parent’s car was stolen by the thief last night.
• Active : Deby wrote some poems last month.
Passive : Some poems were written by Deby last month.
• Active : Tio cooked roast beef for dinner.
Passive : Roast beef were cooked for dinner by Tio.
PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
EXAMPLE :
Active : My friend was baking bread when I came.
Passive : Bread was being baked my friend when I came.
Active : Some workers were maintaining the toll road at this time yesterday.
Passive : The toll road was being maintained some workers at this time yesterday.
Active : They were discussing exchange rates at 7 o’clock this morning.
Passive : Exchange rates were being discussed them at 7 o’clock this morning.
PAST PERFECT TENSE
EXAMPLE :
Active : They had used poison gas in World War I.
Passive : Poison gas had been used them in World War I.
Active : Sally had read two hundred books before graduating from the college.
Passive : Two hundred books had been read by Sally before graduating from the college.
Active : He had helped you so many times before you got the job.
Passive : You had been helped him so many times before you got the job.
PAST FUTURE TENSE
EXAMPLE :
• Active : They would learn English.
Passive : English would be learned by them.
• Active : He would visit his family
Passive : His family would be visited by him
• Active : We would buy a dictionary
Passive : A dictionary would be bought by us.
