RESEARCH

 The purpose of research is to enhance society by advancing knowledge through the


development of scientific theories, concepts and ideas.

Research is a process of systematic inquiry that entails collection of data; documentation of


critical information; and analysis and interpretation of that data/information, in accordance
with suitable methodologies set by specific professional fields and academic disciplines.

 There are several forms of research: scientific, humanities, artistic, economic, social, business,
marketing, practitioner research, life, technological, etc.

The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and
which has not been discovered as yet.

into it.
 To portray accurately the characteristics of a particular individual,
situation or a group.
 To determine the frequency with which something occurs or with
which it is associated with something else.
 To test a hypothesis of a causal relationship between variables.

 Business research can enable a company to stay up-to-date with the market and its trends and appropriate
innovations can be made to stay ahead in the game.

DISADVANTAGES

 Business research can be a high-cost affair


 Most of the time, business research is based on assumptions
 Business research can be time-consuming
 Business research can sometimes give you inaccurate information, because of a biased
population or a small focus group.
 Business research results can quickly become obsolete because of the fast-changing markets.
