MENTAL FITNESS
According to Corbin and Lindsey (Eviza, 2007), total fitness
is the physical, mental, social, and emotional fitness of the whole person. Good
nutrition, good dental health, ample relaxation, and sleep are important to total
fitness.
Authors use the same terms fitness and physical fitness with latter in
mind. Andin and Corbin somehow emphasized the four aspects of fitness that
every individual should aspire and claim to have. That is total fitness.
Part 1:
Components of Physical Fitness
There are two basic components of physical fitness:
the health-related components, and the skill-related components.
The health-related components pertain to the total functioning of the body. These include
cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body
composition.
It requires a strong heart, healthy lungs, and clear blood vessels to supply the body with
oxygen.
The skill-related components, on the other hand, are agility, balance, coordination, power,
and speed. These are usually used to help athletes improve performance for their particular
sport or activity.
These skill-related components are movements that are necessary for an individual to
successfully demonstrate a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
