ATHLETICS

TRACK AND FIELD


Track and field (Athletics) is a sport which include
athletic contests established on the skills of running,
jumping, and throwing. The name is derived from
where the sports take place, a running track and a
grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping
events.
TRACK AND EVENTS
o RUNNING

Running was officially born as a sport in 776 B. C. E, in


ancient Greece, in the town of Olympia. The first event
in the first Olympics ever held was a race. In fact, from
its inception to 724 B.C.E., the station race was the only
competition hosted at the Olympics.

COURT AND DIMENSIONS

The track comprises 2 semicircles, each with a


radius of 36.50cm which are joined by two straights
each 83.39m in length. The track has 8, 6 or
occasionally 4 lanes but the last is not used for
international running competition. All lanes have a
width of 1.22m + 0.01m.

FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS

The skills of running includes jogging, sprinting,


chasing, dodging and evading. All of these are
important to many games (e.g. tag), sports (e.g.
athletics) and everyday activities (e.g. running to get to
school on time).
RULES OF THE GAME

• Sprinters should run in designated lanes and


cannot cross lanes, throughout the race
• In a race with bunched starts, athletes can break
inside. In 800-meter race, they start from now
staggered positions and can break inside after the
first bend.
• n longer races of 15000 meters, 5000 meters and
10000 meters, athletes can break inside after the
start.
RULES OF GAME

• Sprinters should step on white lines that mark their


lanes throughout the race.
• Sensors are place on the starting pistol and at the
blocks. In case of a false start the athlete is
disqualified
• Before giving the set command of before firing the
starter gun athletes cannot touch the other side og the
start line with their hands or feet.
RULES OF THE GAME

• Athlete should not obstruct other athletes during the


race
• If an athlete is obstructed the referee may ordered the
race to be held again, or he may ask the athlete to
take part on the next round.
• Athletes may leave the track voluntarily before the
race ends, but they cannot comeback to the track else
they will be disqualified.
FIELDS AND EVENTS
THROWING

Throwing sports have a long history. Modern track and


field comes from a lineage of activities that dates to the
Ancient Olympic Games. Games based on throwing
stone balls in Ancient Egypt date to 5000 BCE, and a
form of bocce is documented in Ancient Rome.
NATURE OF THROWING

Throwing sport or throwing games, are physical human


competitions where the outcome is measured by the
players ability to throw an object . The two primary
forms are throwing for distance and throwing at a
given target or range. The four most prominent
throwing for distance sport are in track and field.

RULES OF THE GAME
1. In championships meets the games committee may
provide implements and require all competitors to
use them.
2. 2. warming up shall not be allowed in any throwing
venue until supervision by coach or official.
3. 3.Each competitor shall be allowed three in the
finals. In meets with limited entries, the games
committee may allow all competitors just four total
trials.
4. three(3) preliminary trials shall be taken in the flight
of 4 to 12 in the order contestants are listed for
competition.
5. the order in which contestants take their preliminary
trials is determined by the games committee.
A. if weather or other conditions results in unfairness,
referee may alter the order of trials.
6.With prelims, the general rule to go to finals is to
quality one more competitor than scoring.
 7.in preliminaries and finals, the event judge may
allow successive trials to accommodate an athlete in
another event.
 8. contestants shall be report promptly to the event
judge at designated location when the event is
announced.

name is called or charged a trial.
 9. the time limit to be excused for another event is
determined by the games committee
10.Measurement shall be made with non stretchable
tape, such as fiberglass, nylon, steel, or scientific
measuring devise. For records, recommend that a steel
tape be used.
11. Breaking ties for any place use the 2nd best throw”,
still tied , used 3rd best throw ,etc.
12. At the conclusion of any field event there shall be no
further practice and implements shall be removed from
area.
13. To obtain a better grip, competitors may use chalk,
adhesive, rosin or similar substance .
14. Officials may place projecting lines (2” wide and 8”
long ) lying on diameter extended and outside the circle
for the purpose of indicating the back half of throwing
circle.
JUMPING
The origins of the jump can be traced to the Olympics
in Ancient Greece, when athletes carried weights in
each hand… Jesse Owens jumped 8.13m in 1935, a
distance that was not exceeded until 1960, and bob
bemoan flew out to 8.90m in the rarefied air of Mexico
city at the 1960 Olympic games.

RULES OF THE GAME
1. In the long jump, standing long jump and throwing
events (shot put, softball throw, mini-javelin and tennis
ball throw ) each athlete shall be attempts shall be
measured and recorded for breaking ties. The longest
measurement of the three attempts shall be used for
scoring. Athletes second best, and then third best,
attempts shall be used to break ties. All measurement
shall be made in.
RULES OF THE GAME
2. For individual field event competitions long jump,
standing long jump, and throws and combined events, a
competitor shall be charged with a foul if the
competitor does not initiate and attempt within 1
minute after the competitor has approached the
throwing area.
3. For all competitions the use the wind gauge and
recording od wind readings are not required.
