Let’s Understand the Business
Products
TARGET MARKET
Pricing Strategy
The dynamic fare pattern is similar to the one used by airlines with it going up with
rising demand. The fare applicable to each day/transaction is indicated at the time
of booking on the IRCTC’s e-ticketing website.

The scheme has been kept simple - only end to end tickets, no discounts of any
kind, no waiting list tickets, and the fare starts from the Tatkal fares of other
Rajdhanis, and keep going up as the seats get filled.

This is a fairer system public, generates higher revenues for Railways, and is
basically a win-win situation for all stake holders.
DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY
Objective
The specific objectives of IRCTC are:-

(i) To provide high quality catering services directly as well as through network of professionally competitive
licensees and franchisees.

(ii) To be a significant player in the hospitality business.

(iii) To produce bulk food manufacturing facilities like food factories etc.

(iv) To provide high quality package drinking water (Rail Neer) to passengers in trains and at Railway stations.

(v) To promote and market packaged drinking water in competitive market outside Railway premises under a
different brand name or otherwise.

(vi) To promote tourism across the country especially for all segments of Rail Passengers

COMPETITORS IRCTC has no competitors. But thinking broadly competitors for

IRCTC is putting its best efforts to provide all the needs of the passengers to serve
quality food at cost effective prices.
Four steps taken by Modi government to make it easier to book train tickets

the number of tickets that an individual can book via the e-ticketing platform, in a single login session

RuPay Pre-paid Card: Prabhu has also launched the IRCTC and Union Bank of India RuPay Pre-paid
Card, which is loaded with an amount as desired by the customer and can be redeemable for rail tickets,
to buy goods and services on IRCTC website.

Book 4 months in advance: Now travellers can book train tickets four months in advance as the Railways
has decided to extend the advance reservation period from 60 days to 120 days, with effect from April 1.

the payment can be made.
Conclusion

Railways. By focusing on overcoming technical glitches, enhancing more user
friendly interface, with comprehensive plans to tie up with more banks and to offer
new services in new areas, constantly innovating in tune with new age websites
and providing a positive and enriching customer experience. With the focus on
