Section 44A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

GOVT TO LAUNCH EXPANDED AYUSHMAN BHARAT SCHEME, U-WIN PORTAL IN
OCT 2024
• Why in the news: Union Health Minister J P Nadda informed, the government will formally
launch the expanded Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)
scheme and the vaccination tracking portal U-Win in October 2024.
• About Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana:
o Launched on: 23rd September, 2018
o Launched by: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi
o Launched at: Ranchi, Jharkhand
o Nodal Agency: National Health Authority
o Covers: Up to Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care
hospitalization
o Post-hospitalization follow-up care up to 15 days
o Note: It is world’s largest government funded healthcare program
o Target: 12 crore families (approximately 55 crore bebeficiaries)
o Achievement of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY
▪ Coverage: Over 35.4 crore Ayushman cards have been issued, and the
scheme is operational in 33 States and Union Territories.
▪ Gender Equity: 49% of the Ayushman cards have been issued to women.
▪ It has been successfully empanelled 30,529 hospitals across the country,
with 17,063 public and 13,466 private hospitals.
o New feature:
▪ The AB-PMJAY to cover all senior citizens of 70 years and above, without
any income cap.
• About U-WIN:
o Ministry: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
o Aim: To maintain a permanent digital record of vaccination and medicines
o Beneficiary: Pregnant women and children (up to 6 years of age), and adolescents
(till 18 years age)
o Vaccination can be availed against 12 vaccine preventable diseases
o Note: Up to 10 people can be registered for vaccination using the same mobile
number.

• Why in the news: The Union Health Ministry has proposed a non-skippable health spot of
not less than 30 seconds and an audio-visual disclaimer of not below 20 seconds on ill-
effects of tobacco to be displayed on OTT platforms as soon as one starts streaming them.
• Any content released on the platforms on or after September 1, 2023, that shows tobacco
use has to carry a prominent static message at the screen’s bottom for the duration
tobacco use is shown.
• A total of 55 tiger reserves, 33 elephant reserves, and 718 protected areas and their
zones will benefit from the scheme.

New Delhi.
MANA VILLAGE SELECTED FOR LANDMARK TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
• Why in the news: The Central government has selected Mana village, located in the
Joshimath block of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, has been selected under the Pradhan
Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan.
• Note: Chamoli is home to the Bhotiya tribes, most of whom have resided in the Mana and
Niti valleys of Upper Chamoli for centuries.
• About Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan:
o Launched in: 2024
o Ministry: Ministry of Tribal Affairs

• Oxygen Bird Park (Amrit Mahotsav Park) is an eco-initiative developed by the National
Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

• Key Targets:
o Increase sea cruise passengers from 0.5 million in Phase 1 to 1 million by Phase

o Increases in sea cruise calls from 125 to 500.

o The number of international cruise terminals will expand from 2 in Phase 1 to
10 by Phase 3.

• The objective of the workshop is to share knowledge of the states of the STARS project,
identify the challenges of educational programs and adopt the excellent work being done in

o It is a pioneering initiative in generative AI.
o It is designed to revolutionize public service delivery and boost citizen
engagement through developing a suite of foundational models in language, speech
and computer vision
o It is the world's first government-funded Multimodal Large Language Model
project.

ADB FUNDS RS 530 CRORE WATER SUPPLY SCHEMES FOR 12 CITIES IN TRIPURA
• Why in the news: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha laid the foundation stone of Asian
Development Bank (ADB) funded water supply improvement facility for 12 towns in the
state.
• Loan Amount: Rs 530 crore
• Reason: For water supply improvement in 12 civic bodies of the northeastern state
• Aim: To boost the water supply to households and is supposed to be completed in the next
three years.
o The scheme also includes the Chief Minister's Special Category Scheme, which
provides grant-in-aid of up to Rs. 1 lakh.
• Other initiatives of state:
o Introduction of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for four key crops: Ginger,
Broom, Turmeric, and Mizo Birdeye Chilli
o In a pilot phase, Paddy from Kolasib and Mamit districts will be procured at a
minimum support rate of Rs. 30 per kilogram starting this year.
• Why in the news: The 12th edition of the Kerala Travel Mart 2024 is being organised at
the Sagara Samudrika Convention Centre at Wellington Island in Kochi.
• Focus: Responsible Tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions)
tourism, wedding destinations, and cruise tourism
o Under the scheme, goshalas will be given ₹50 per cow per day.
• Various indigenous breeds of cows are found in different parts of the state (e.g., Deoni in
Marathwada, Lal Kandhari, Shillari in western Maharashtra, Dangi in northern
Maharashtra, and Gaolao in Vidarbha).

EU PLEDGES ₹35 BILLION LOAN TO SUPPORT UKRAINE'S RECOVERY
• Why in the news: The EU will grant a loan of up to 35 billion euros ($39 billion) to Ukraine
to help the country stuck in a grinding war with Russia.

• Nepal exports Hydroelectric power, resin, agricultural produce, yarn, pashmina shawls, hide

Situational Awareness (SSA) capabilities.

ECONOMIC FRAMEWORK
• Why in the news: India has signed the first-of-its-kind agreements focused on a Clean
Economy, Fair Economy, and the overarching Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF)
in Delaware, USA.
• These agreements were exchanged under the IPEF for prosperity.
• The Agreement on Clean Economy intends to promote technical cooperation, workforce

AIIMS DELHI SIGN MOU WITH TECH COMPANY TO ESTABLISH CENTRE FOR
ROBOTIC-ASSISTED SURGERY
• Why in the news: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and
Intuitive (a technology company) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish an
innovative new training centre for robotic-assisted surgery.
• The AIIMS da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery training centre will focus on equipping
surgeons and care teams with the skills and technology to perform robotic-assisted surgery
across specialities, including urology, gynaecology, general surgery, and more.
CCI NOD FOR TVS HOLDINGS’ MAJORITY STAKE BUY IN HOME CREDIT INDIA
• Why in the news: Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of
shares of Home Credit India by TVS Holdings and Premji Invest.
• TVS Holdings had acquired 80.74 per cent of the equity stake in Home Credit India
Finance for ₹554 crore.
• Premji Invest was to take about 10.8 per cent and other various minority investors were
to hold about 8.5 percent of the business.

ARUNACHAL GOVT SIGNS MOU WITH DELHI'S ILBS FOR CASHLESS TREATMENT
• Why in the news: The Arunachal Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of
understanding with Delhi's Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences.
• Reason: To extend the cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to the beneficiaries of the state's
Chief Minister Arogya Arunachal Yojana.
• Under the MoU, the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) will offer cashless
treatment based on credit authorisation issued by the Chief Minister Arogya Arunachal
Yojana (CMAAY) on the recommendation of the referral board in the Naharlagun-based Tomo
Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).
INDIA SIGNS HIGH SEAS TREATY FOR FAIR, EQUITABLE SHARING OF BENEFITS
• Why in the news: India has signed the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ)
Agreement to promote the conservation of marine genetic resources and the fair and
equitable sharing of benefits.
• The agreement (High Seas Treaty) is an international accord under the United Nations
Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
• The high seas cover areas nearly two-thirds (64%) of the ocean – almost half the planet’s
surface.
• It includes some of the most ecologically vital, but critically threatened and least
protected areas on earth; less than 1% of what is fully or highly protected.
• Aim: To address the growing concerns over the long-term protection of marine biodiversity in
the high seas.
NASA & SPACEX LAUNCH CREW-9 MISSION TO ISS TO BRING SUNITA WILLIAMS
BACK TO EARTH
• Why in the news: NASA and SpaceX spacecraft carrying Crew-9 members, astronaut Nick
Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, left for the International Space
Station (ISS) to bring Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams back to Earth.
• Sunita Williams and Barry Willmore travelled to the ISS abroad in Boeing’s Starliner space
shuttle in its first crewed mission on June 5 for an originally planned stay of 8 days.
• The duo is now expected to return in February 2025.

• Why in the news: Raksha Mantri, Rajnath Singh has flagged-in a first-of-its-kind Open
Water Swimming Expedition to the 21 Islands of the Andaman & Nicobar archipelago, in
New Delhi.
o Note: On January 23, 2023 (observed as Parakram Diwas), Prime Minister
Narendra Modi had named 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar

JSW INFRASTRUCTURE TO INVEST ₹2359 CRORE IN PORTS EXPANSION
• Why in the news: JSW Infrastructure Limited, India’s second-largest private commercial
port operator, has approved a ₹2,359 crore capital expenditure plan.
• Reason: To expand capacity at its Jaigarh and Dharamtar ports, located in Maharashtra.
• Aim: To increase its total capacity by 36 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), with 21 MTPA at

• It has mapped sites along India’s coastline with the potential to generate energy from

intelligence assistants for Office and unveiled a range of new AI tools designed to help

Copilots.

• Why in the news: The "India Status Report on Road Safety 2024," prepared by the TRIP
Centre at IIT Delhi, revealed the ongoing challenges faced by India in improving road safety.
• High Fatality Rates:
o In 2021, these injuries were the 13th
leading cause of death and the 12th
leading cause of health loss
(measured in Disability-Adjusted Life
Years or DALYs).
o Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir,
Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and
Uttar Pradesh, road traffic injuries
are among the top 10 causes of
health loss.

per annum from April 1, 2020.

GOVT TO EXTEND SOCIAL SECURITY TO GIG WORKERS THROUGH E-SHRAM
• Why in the news: The government is actively exploring various avenues to ensure gig and
platform workers are covered under social security.
• The registration of the workers will be undertaken on the eShram, that facilitate the
implementation of social security measures.
• Gig workers:
o Someone who takes on short-term or project-based jobs, often for multiple clients
at once, rather than being employed by a single company.
• Note: According to the 2022 report of NITI Aayog, the Indian gig workforce is expected to
expand to 23.5 million workers by 2029-30

• Section 245MA of the Act also provides for the constitution of Dispute Resolution
Committees (DRC).
• The e-DRS enables the taxpayer to file an application electronically for dispute resolution to

• As per e-DRS, a taxpayer can opt for e-Dispute Resolution against the ‘specified order’ as
defined in clause (b) of the Explanation to section 245MA of the Act, which includes an

lakh and returned income for the relevant assessment year does not exceed Rs. 50
lakh.
• The application for e-DRS is to be filed in Form No. 34BC referred in rule 44DAB of the
Rules, on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, within one month from the
date of receipt of specified order.

GENSOL-MATRIX CONSORTIUM WINS ₹164 CRORE BID FOR INDIA’S FIRST BIO-
HYDROGEN PROJECT
• Why in the news: Gensol Engineering Limited in partnership with Matrix Gas &
Renewables Ltd., has secured a contract worth ₹164 crore to develop India’s first Bio-
Hydrogen project.
• The consortium emerged as the lowest bidder for the engineering, procurement, and
construction (EPC) of the project, which will convert 25 tons of bio-waste into 1 ton of
hydrogen per day.
• Gensol and Matrix have partnered with Westinghouse, USA, to utilize their patented Pre-
Gasification Plasma Induced Radiant Energy-Based Gasification System (GH2-PREGS)
technology for the project.
• In order to put in place a simplified airworthiness requirements for light aircraft and private
plane operators, DGCA has introduced three sets of regulations -- CAR-ML, CAR-CAO and
CAR-CAMO.
• New regulations are aligned with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
• Why in the news: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has

donor trust fund to support and lower the costs of solar power projects globally.

• The facility was catalysed by the Indian government and its support for expanding access to
