expertise of its subsidiary, Novelis, a world leader in flat rolled products.

Mining

In India, Hindalco’s bauxite mines are located close to its manufacturing
units: at Lohardaga (Jharkhand),
.Samri (Chhattisgarh), Maliparbat (Odisha), and West Coast Mines
(Maharashtra).
The recently commissioned Utkal Alumina Refinery (a 100% subsidiary of
Hindalco), gets its bauxite from
Baphlimali (Odisha) mines, around 20 kms from the refinery, a great logistic
advantage, in times when global
majors are sourcing their bauxite across continents
Hindalco has recently acquired coal mines in Chhattisgarh − Gare Palma IV/4
and IV/5 and in Jharkhand −
Kathautia and Dumri. These coal reserves will feed the power requirements of
Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Aditya
and Hirakud (Odisha) Aluminum Smelters

Smelting
Hindalco’s smelting capacity is around 1.3 million tpa of primary aluminum. The
smelters are located at Renukoot (UP), Mahan (MP), Aditya Aluminum and Hirakud
(Odisha).

Power
Captive power supply for power intensive smelting operations is provided

from the Company’s highly

efficient thermal power plants located at Renusagar (UP), Mahan (MP),

Hirakud and Aditya (Odisha) with

largely captive coal back up, ensuring uninterrupted cost effective

aluminum metal production.

Hindalco’s Sustainability Board is headed by the Managing Director himself to
oversee the Company ’s

sustainability program with regard to mining practices; energy conservation;


recycling of materials and
process energy; environment-friendly disposal of industrial wastes;

safety practices; empowerment of


employees, and the socio-economic development of the communities around
each unit. The focus of People, Planet, Profit (3Ps) is embedded into every
action and decision making process.
In areas such as development of mines, regeneration activities, minimizing or
mitigating environmental impact is the focus; while community development
initiatives aim to build self-reliance for future generations through proactive
schemes.

Aditya Birla Group’s future
investments
 This is a solar power company which has a small
30 Mega Watt power plant at the Aditya
Aluminum & will set up a 100 Mega Watt power
plant in partnership with Odisha's TISCOM for a
safer future.

 Between all these companies a total investment


of 40k crore rupees has been done in the state of
Odisha.

 12k employees of Aditya group are spread across


Odisha.

 Further more 25k people will be recruited by the


Aditya Birla Group.

 In next coming couple of years the group is going


to invest a lump sum of 2 billion $ in Odisha.
Hindalco and Odisha’s economy
• The Aditya birla Group has decided to invest 14000
crore rupees in Odisha, in all of its sector, ranging
from building solutions, aluminum and copper,
telecom, financial investment, chlor-alkali , apparel
and many more.

• Out of 14400 crore rupees , 5000 crore rupees is to


be invested in the Hindalco .

• It is a big ticket project proposal, through single


window clearance authority{ SLSWCA}

• It is going to set up an aluminum flat rolled product


unit of .375 MTPA at Sambalpur.
• In the existing aluminum smelter plant at Lapanga in
Sambalpur.
 And an employment potential of 550 people is
estimated to have as new recruitment from
the skilled worker pool of Odisha.

 A high level clearance authority is


recommended by the honorable chief minister
of Odisha Sri Naveen Patnaik , to ease the
formality procedure for Hindalco and Aditya
Birla Group.

 Koraput and raigada are the two places where


Hindalco has alumina extraction companies
they supply refined aluminum to Hindalco to
produce goods.
 Land of 300 acres for downstream unit has
been sanctioned by the Odisha government to
Hindalco.
In line with the Gandhian philosophy of trusteeship, the
Company’sFoundingFather, the late GDBirla believedin
investingaportionof the Company’sprofits for thelarger
good of society.

The late Aditya Vikram Birla, went beyond chequebook


philanthropy when he brought in the concept of
‘sustainable livelihood’–introducing Hindalco’s active
involvement in five key aspects of social development:

Welfare activities
I. For about 5000 villages are in touch or
adopted by the Aditya Birla Group
across India's geography.
II. 7 million people in all over India & 5
lakhs people in Odisha from 130
villages spanning to 5 districts have
come under their project.
III. The Aditya Birla Group provides 30k
mid day meals to schools
IV. 100k school children have been
provided solar lamps
V. Aditya Birla Public school in Raigada &
ganjam provides quality education to
1400 school students

I. Along with SWABHIMAN & some local


NGO’s they support 400 differently abled
children.
II. They have conducted more than 1000
health camps in Raigada, Boabdil,
