EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

After this industrial visit I came to understand that how an industry functions, how is the staff or
workers managed, Understanding the day to day operations, their machineries and their
infrastructure.
Being a student of management I came to know the realistic approach towards the management
such as how they plan operations, promotion, staffing, financing and Productions.
A full insight of the industry is what I got from the visit.
From my point of view an industrial visit is the actual learning that any student can acquire from.
Industrial exposure is most required for management students, exposure in different activities
that is conducted in industry gives you an idea about how things work in real life and you get to
apply the theory part of your academics.

KALYANI MAXION WHEEL LTD.

PURPOSE OF VISIT

Purpose of visit is to know how industry work,how each department of industry work together
for a single goal,to know how they work productively in industry,to knowthe efficient of
working in industry.through these visit,we not only learn about technical knowledge but also to
know about leadership qualities and team building.
Apart from educational purpose may serve as with an opportunity to travel and explore new
cities,culture and people.To minimize the gap between students academic life and the working
environment which students has to face suddenly after their studies.

OBJECTIVES OF VISIT

1. To know things practically through interaction,working methods and employment


pratices.
2. To get exposure from academic point of view.
3. Main aim was to get exposer of practical working environment.
4. Toknow how to build a good relationship with the employes.
5. To know the different ways of working opportunity in different sectors of the company.

DETAIL OF THE JOURNEY

Our visit to KalyaniMaxionWheel Ltd. was on 04.02.2017 (Saturday),we were 50 students


accompanied by three faculty members,we were provided with two buses from the
college.KalyaniMaxion Wheel Ltd. is located in chakkan which is in Pune.Our source of start
was started from our college and the manufacturing plant was approximately 33KMS from our
college,which took us around one hour twenty minutes to reach their without any stop.We got to
see the manufacturing plant,which was relatively a advanced company that uses Robotic
machines too and a well maintain infrastructure.
Now talking about the visiting the department we were divided into two groups,and my group
was accompanied by Mr.NarendraPatil and Professor Mrs. Tripti Sharma in the processing unit
of the rims in the department.He explained us about the manufacturing of the wheel rims and
shows us from the beginning till the end of the wheel rims manufacturing process.After the we
got a presentation by Mr.Malhari one of the staff of the manufacturing department who was not
so cool but he explained about the KalyaniMaxion Wheel Pvt.Ltd.
We left around 2pm and took a stop for lunch at SaiSagar pure veg restaurant and left by their
around 3:15.We returned to our college around 4:30.
The overall journey was good and enjoying all of us enjoyed the industrial visit and spend our
good time.

we should reciprocate and giveback to the society that has given us so much. The group is therefore,
morallycommitted and has taken several initiatives in areas such as Education,
Environment,Infrastructure and Community.

Mr. Kalyani is the Founder Chairman of Pratham Pune Education Foundation, anNGO that is engaged in
providing primary education to children belonging tounder privileged sections of the local community.
Since its inception in 2000,Pratham Pune has made a difference in the lives of over 150,000 children in
Pune society.
The group is steering a unique initiative to empower rural youth at a Taluka in Pune district by providing
free technical and vocational training at agovernment Industrial Training Institute [ITI] that is being run
as a PublicPrivatepartnership. The pioneering model is being replicated in other partsof the country.

The group also supports various other NGOs and charitable institutes engagedin education and in
uplifting quality of lives of the disadvantaged and needy.

The Kalyani Group has also funded a housing project for flood affected familiesat Koppal District. The
project is spread over an area of 41 Acres with 395independent houses.The group has invested in
Renewable Energy Project generating Green Energy, somuch so that 30% of its flagship plant
requirement comes from green energy.In pursuance of the group’s vision to contribute to a clean and
emission freeenvironment,

It has set up a new venture Kenersys Limited to manufacture various energyefficient wind turbines for
domestic and international markets.
It is also engaged in developing solar energy equipment that would contributein further strengthening his
group’s footprint in the non conventional energysector.
In a joint venture with KPIT Cummins, Bharat Forge is developing a uniquehybrid solution that would
contribute in the country being able to meet itsvehicular emission targets.

Infrastructure is another key growth area for the Kalyani Group. The group has tied upwith Alstom of
France to manufacture turbines and generators required for varioussuper critical power plants. The
Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor, is one ofthe largest and most ambitious self-contained
infrastructure projects of its kind thatis being set up in the country which will contribute in changing the
economic face ofKarnataka. In addition, the group is setting up the largest multi-product
SpecialEconomic Zone in Pune District of Maharashtra.

Product Portfolio
Wheel rims range from 5.5 – 16 to 8.5 – 20, and
drop centre wheel rims of 5.5 x 15 and 4.5E x
16 to 8.25 x 22.5 that are designed to reduce
weight. The specially designed disc with a back
bending effect imparts more durability, while
the piece design for HCV‟s give a better grip on
the gutter and are easier for removal and
fitment. The 8 hole design improves cooling of
the brake drum – critical in hilly terrains.

HISTORY

Since designing the first wooden-spoke wheels for the Model T, Maxion Wheels has been responsible for
nearly every major wheel innovation in automotive history. Over the course of the last 100 years, we've
grown to serve a worldwide customer base with a diverse and comprehensive product offering. Today, we
continue to innovate and add to our core product offerings, while strategically expanding our
manufacturing capabilities to match the growth of our customers.

1908 Clarence Hayes establishes Hayes Wheels and begins Production of Wooden Wheels for the Ford
Model T.
1909 John Kelsey and John Herbert establish K.H. Wheel Company.
1919 Lemmerz begins producing wheels in Königswinter, Germany.
1926 First Riveted Spoke Type Wheel - Wire Wheel.

1927 K.H. Wheel and Hayes Wheels Merge to Form Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Company Goodyear Tire
Company opens steel wheel plant in Akron, OH (Maxion Akron Plant).
1939 Lemmerz begins producing wheels square profile wheel discs.

1940 Kelsey-Hayes produces machine guns and equipment for tanks during World War 2 Kelsey-Hayes
develops die cast of Magnesium Wheel for U.S. Military.

1956 Lemmerz establishes a mill in Konigswinter, Germany for the manufacture of sheet steel, becoming
the 1st automotive wheel manufacturer in the world with its own steel supply.
1958 FNV starts wheel production in Cruzeiro, Brazil plant.

1959 Kelsey-Hayes establishes its headquarters at Romulus, MI (former military jet engine plant) and
consolidates steel wheel production at new location.Lemmerz begins production of automotive wheels
using the "rivetless" riveting method.

1960 Lemmerz establishes Lemmerz Espanola S.A. (Manresa Plant) Kelsey-Hayes introduces the Integral
Aluminum Wheel Hub and Rim - Cast Aluminum Wheel.

1962 Kelsey-Hayes supplies Chrome Plated Wire Wheels for Ford Thunderbird Lemmerz establishes
Lemmerz de Mexico (Tlainepantla, Mexico).

1963 Motor Wheel introduces Chrome Plated "Hollywood" Construction Wheel Kelsey-Hayes introduces
full cast aluminum Knock-Off Wheel – Corvette.
1964 Goodyear acquires Motor Wheel Corporation.
1966 Kelsey-Hayes acquires 30% interest in K-H Venezuela, steel wheel manufacturer (Rudeveca).

1968 Lemmerz establishes Borlem S.A. EmpriendimentosIndustriais, a joint venture established to


manufacture steel wheels in Brazil.

1973 Rockwell International acquires Fumagalli Fruehauf Trailer purchases Kelsey-Hayes Lemmerz
begins production of commercial vehicle disc wheels with single piece rims.

1978 Kelsey-Hayes introduces first Fabricated Aluminum Wheel - Dodge Monaco Kelsey-Hayes opens a
steel wheel plant in Sedalia, MO, USA.

1984 Kelsey-Hayes acquires the Western Wheel aluminum wheel business from Rockwell International
Kelsey-Hayes acquires the K-H de Espana, a Spanish aluminum wheel manufacturer (Barcelona) Kelsey-
Hayes introduces first Stamped/Spun Disc Aluminum Wheel - Corvette Spare Wheel.
1985 Kelsey-Hayes acquires the Huntington, IN aluminum wheel plant from CMI.

1986 Kelsey-Hayes, Chou Seiki, and Toyota establish joint venture Central Motor Wheel in Paris KY to

1989 Varity acquires Kelsey-Hayes.

Luis Potosi, MX plant JL&L Holdings acquires Hayes Wheels and merges operations with Motor Wheel

2012Iochpe-Maxion acquires Hayes Lemmerz and creates Maxion Wheels from Hayes Lemmerz,
Maxion, and Fumagalli.

rim manufacturing company whuch has the lowest defect rate of 2%

Manufacture of domestic appliances, n.e.c.

KalyaniMaxion Wheels Private Limited's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was last held on 08
June 2016 and as per records from Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), its balance sheet was
last filed on 31 December 2015.

EMPLOYMENT ENGAGEMENT

They have good employment facilities.


They provide bonus to their employes at every occasion.
They programe a two day adventure trip every year.
They do some sports and cultural events for employees.

GROUP OBSERVATION

SOME STOCKS AS ON 04.03.2017

 The welcome session was organized and we were being introduced


to the plant engineer/supervisor.

 Firstly we went to production department and see how the


production and manufacturing of alloy wheels take place.

 On that day production of Tata motors was going on.

 Single Day production Capacity in one Shift is 1800 units there are
3 shifts in a day but they achieve 1500 units approximately per
shift.

 They get Raw material from Essar and Tata.

 Quality is 99%, where as rejection is 1.3% - 1.7%


 While Re-work is 0.7% - 1.3%

 Hydraulic pressure is 31.22 - 31.24

 Use of Zinc, Copper and Aluminium as Raw material

 Thickness of wheels is compressed to increase the height of the


wheels.

 As per the instruction of plant Supervisor, he told us that minimum


cost of 1 volvo rem Maxion Ltd is @ 21000.

 For fully completion of 1 wheel, it approximately takes 3-4 hours.

 After that supervisor told us that if there is any rejection after Re-
work then they dumb it and whole lot is not being used.

 As far as safety is concerned they have a good safety measures as


they have achieved no accidents in last 70 days
 .
 In whole last year only 1 accident took place and preventives
measures were taken immediately.

 After that we were being taken by supervisor to address the


presentation.

 The presentation in conference hall which mentioned each and


everything about Kalyani-MAxion Pvt. LTD.

 In between we asked them about the production system &


problems faced by them which they answered very efficiently.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
As the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity they do events,workshops for IT
colleges,Industrial Visit for students.They spend for the safety of employees and for the staff.
Their were no accident incident from 81 days till 12.03.2017.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

 Moreover the visit was quite knowledgeable and interesting, a new


beginning or a platform to know an industry.
 The premises of factory should be stretched even more.
 More employment of workers, if possible.

 More of safety measures to be taken to avoid incidents.
 Marketing strategy should be improved.
 They should opt for more capital by issuing shares by transforming
company from private sector to public sector.
 Above all, what I feel is I stand nowhere to comment on the
company as it is doing well in its field.
 Lastly, the way they treated us was just remarkable.
