    Ms. Astins 5th Grade Adventurers

    A Little About Ms. Astin


    This is my 18th Year of
    Teaching
    I spent 2 years in Kindergarten,
    10 years in 1st grade, 5 years
    as an EIP Specialist, and this is
    my first year in 5th Grade.
    I have a BS ED in Early
    Childhood Education and a
    MSED in Science Education K8.

    7:15-8:00
    Morning Routine (breakfast, attendance, morning
    practice)

    Responsibilities of Our Classroom Team


    Homework
    Your student will bring home homework in their homework folder nightly. I do not assign an abundance of
    homework, as it is important for your students to still be kids.

    Agendas
    Your student is responsible for writing down their assignments in their agendas each day. Please check your
    students agenda nightly as I also may place a note in it for you. Conduct Codes will be placed in Agendas.

    Work/Study Habits
    While homework is not taken as a grade, it is important to practice whatever skill is sent home. Homework is extra
    practice outside of the classroom and will give you an idea what is being learned in class.

    Organization
    Please encourage your student to stay organized and keep papers being returned to school in their homework
    folders.

    Thursday Folders
    All graded work and any special notices or announcements from Dowell will be sent home in your students
    Thursday folder. Please remove any papers and be sure to sign the folder sheet. If your student has a graded paper
    60 or below, please sign and return that paper to school. Thursday Folders should be returned every Friday.

    Homework: It is not
    counted as a grade, but
    it matters. It shows me
    that you put forth effort
    to improve your skills.

    Checking Grades:
    Parents can sign up
    and log into Parent Vue
    to see your students
    grades.

    Failing Assignments:
    Graded work that received
    a grade of 60 and below,
    should be signed and
    returned to school.

    Missing Assignments:
    I do not give 0s! All missing assignments
    will be a 50% in the grade book until they
    are completed and turned in. Students
    will have 2 weeks to complete the
    missing work and boost a failing grade.

    Absent Work:
    If an assignment was taken for a grade
    during your absence, I will make it up in
    class. I will send home any missed
    classwork that was not graded with your
    student. Please go over it with them. It is
    not necessary to return it to school.

    Quizzes/Tests:
    We will have quizzes and tests periodically in the areas of Math,
    Science/Social Studies.

    Following Directions:
    It is essential that your student make a habit of following directions. Failure
    to repeatedly follow directions can impact your students work habits grade
    on their report card.

    Checking for Mistakes:


    Instill in your student the process of re-checking their work. So many errors
    on papers come from careless mistakes, not completing an assignments, or
    skipping items.
