Activity A: Read the following informational text about Puerto

Rico.

Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean. It is home to about 3 million

people. Its diversity reflects the original European settlers, enslaved West
Africans, and the few remaining natives. The Puerto Rican people speak Spanish,
but they also may speak English, which is their official second language.
Puerto Rico has been part of the United States since 1917, but it is not a
state. It is a Commonwealth. Pedro Pierluisi is the governor. He has ruled the
Commonwealth in 2020 when the people of Puerto Rico voted him into office.
Puerto Ricans do not have the right to vote in US Federal elections. However,
they do have the right to vote for their own officials.
