Upper School Term Two Holiday Bulletin: 20th August 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We salute you and believe that you are enjoying the short holiday together with your child. We thank
you for your support last term and look forward to serving you in the coming one. Please take a keen
look at the following updates:

 Holiday Homework

Please ensure your child has attempted all homework that was shared with them during the Teacher-
Parent Conference. Help him/her go through the worksheets given and revise as we also plan to sit for
opener examinations when we open. If you need assistance, do not hesitate to contact the department.

 Third Term Timetable Structure

We have developed strategies for the last part of the academic year for our beloved candidates that will
see to it that we have addressed their weak areas and prepare for KCPE. Several sessions aiming at
sorting individual abilities are in place to ensure we achieve the highest score for this group. We will
therefore have night lessons effective term 3, and more lessons allocated for some specific subjects
that require immediate action.

We encourage you to facilitate the process by ensuring your child is in school to attend to all the
support lessons we have for the third term. This will make all of us celebrate at the end of this year.

 Parents Engagement

We will share a calendar of activities for the term, please take note of the key engagement dates and
save them. The school expects 100% attendance/support at your child’s events. This is a critical
moment for your child and would like to maximize the opportunity to keep a tab on your child’s
progress as well as participate in the most important days of their school life.

 School Uniform & Grooming Standards

Effective the first day of school, all learners will be expected to be in the correct uniform and hairstyle.
Uniform standards will be considered under:

 The right shade and fabric

 The right fit
 The right design

The school uniform shop is open to supply all uniform requirements. Make sure to label all items you
have acquired for your learner to facilitate his/her stay in Mirema School. This will help reduce the
cases of loss of items.

 Games & PE Requirements

Learners should always wear comfortable shoes that would allow them to engage in different activities.
Please, provide a black/navy blue North Star Bata Bullet for sports and a white pair of sports socks.
The dress code schedule will be shared at the beginning of the term.

 Personal Grooming

Girls’ hairstyles MUST be neatly styled and secured away from the face. Neat cornrows and black
braids are permitted. Beads are not allowed in school. Fancy styles are not permitted.

Boys’ hair MUST be neatly cut. Fancy styles are not permitted. Strict compliance is expected when
reporting back to school.

Please take note: Strict compliance will be expected in terms of school uniforms, hair, and grooming.
Learners who report without having the right haircut or braid style will be sent home or have the school
facilitate the process, with the parent bearing the costs for haircut and fuel expenses; the incorrect
uniform will be confiscated, the child given a new uniform from school and the parent billed.

 Term 3 Invoices

Kindly note that term 3 invoices have been uploaded on the parents’ portal. Take advantage of the
early payment discount of 3% on the school fees item, if you clear before opening day.

 KCPE Dates

The 2023 KCPE dates will run from 30th October to 2nd November 2023. The Rehearsal Day for
the KCPE will be 27th October. Learners will be required to have with them the following:

 A clear Mathematical Set

 A clear clip board

 More than 5 HB pencils
 3 Pelican erasers

This will aid the examination process to completion. Parents are therefore urged to start preparing to
get them for their learners and to be dropped before or on the Candidates’ Prayer Day.

 August Holiday Nugget for Candidates

o Children want to behave well; if they seem to miss the mark, it is not without a valid reason.
o The most important thing is to realize that whatever a child does, we may label as bad, but
really the child is doing the best he/she can or reacting to something.
o It is our duty to find out why he/she is behaving that way and address the root cause.
o Take time to listen to your child’s hidden needs.
o Your active presence may save the situation, be present and attend to their emotional needs.
o As they prepare for final primary exam, assure them of your support and prayers.
 School Opening Day

The boarders report on Monday, 28th August 2023, as from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. No candidate will
be allowed in past the designated time. We are excited to receive our learners back and start off on a
high note for the term!

 Communication

We remain steadfast in serving you to the best of our abilities. For any communication, feel free to
contact the upper school official line. You can call to make any arrangements including scheduling
meetings with specific subject teachers.

With kind regards,

Walter Juma - Upper School Assistant Education Administrator.
