CLEANSING
GENTLE CLEANSE (CLEANSING RINSE)

A cleansing rinse can be used for a quick colour correction on the same day
as the colour service/treatment has been performed.

• Remove an overload of colour in mid-lengths & ends directly after the colour treatment
is completed e.g. Koleston perfect, illumina color , color touch.
• Remove an overload of pigments directly after a high lift colour koleston perfect special blonde.
• Remove intensity of direct dyes.

Step 1 - mix blondor multi blonde powder or granules with warm water (can be 1:2 or 1:3).
Step 2 - apply at the basin directly after colour has been rinsed.
The residual amount of oxidation in the hair will help to slightly lift the chosen areas.
Step 3 - rinse, shampoo & anti-oxy the hair.
Step 4 - if needed use color touch or color fresh to tone.

DEEP CLEANSE (MILD LIGHTENER)

The best technique for colour correction (removal old colour, remove bands,
remove an overload of pigments) is the mild lightener as it can be used perfectly to
prepare the hair for a new colour application.
A lift up to 2-3 levels can be achieved.

Step 1 - mix blondor multi blonde powder or soft blonde cream with welloxon perfect
pastel developer in a 1:4 mixing ratio.
Step 2 - apply on dry hair using a brush on the chosen areas.
Massage in & leave for maximum 50 mins without heat.
Step 3 - rinse, shampoo & blondor seal and care.
Step 4 - dry the hair & apply your chosen colour.

PRE PIGMENTATION
If a client wants to colour a bleached or over-highlighted hair darker with a fashion shade
a pre-pigmentation is recommended for the use of koleston perfect & color touch.

3 Different ways for pre-pigmentation;

A) using perfecton by color fresh
B) using koleston perfect special mix 0/43
C) using color touch for color touch only = filling

A) PRE PIGMENTATION USING PERFECTON BY COLOR FRESH

• Recommended shades - /3, /43, /44

• 20mls perfecton + 40ml warm water
• Apply on dry hair using a sponge & leave for approx 10-15 minutes.
• Dab off the excess product using a tissue or dark towel.
• If needed dry the hair with a hairdryer, cool temperature.
• Apply chosen colour on top.

PRE PIGMENTATION OR USING COLOR TOUCH ONLY = FILLING

• A 2 step process when going darker using color touch.

• Excellent for extreme porous hair.
• Determine the target depth. Find the recommended formula for your first step using the filling chart.
• Always mix 1 part color touch + 2 parts of color touch emulsion 1.9%.
• Apply to pre-shampooed, towel dried hair.
• Develop up to 20 minutes.
• When desired results are achieved, rinse until the water runs clear, towel-dry & the apply your chosen
target shade in the normal way.

C) PRE PIGMENTATION USING KOLESTON PERFECT SPECIAL MIX 0/43

• This special mix tone can be used because of the high amount of direct dyes contained
and needed for pigmentation.
• Mix 15ml koleston perfect special mix 0/43 + 60ml warm water.
• Mix well to achieve an even and blended consistency.
• Apply with brush or sponge on dry hair.
• Leave for 10-15 minutes.
• Rinse & dry the hair, before applying chosen colour

Note : this is a guideline chart for color touch “filling” technique,

all recipes are a guideline only and should be adjusted
depending on the hairs porosity and the target shade. It has been proven,
adding too warm an undercoat when pre-pigmenting, the colour exposes too much red.
These recipes give the closest to a neutral colour as possible.

Watch point : the timings for the color touch “filling” is imperative for colour result.
It has been observed from leavingthe product on longer than development time.
Can result in a darker shade than desired

BENEFITS

• The natural colour at the roots will not be changed.

• Pigment lock gives a natural healthy looking result.
• Amazing long-lastingness of the colour.
“Pigment lock” works in 2 steps with a special proven recipe.

Note : the 1st step of “pigment lock” ensures that the pre-cursers & couplers can penetrate into the
hair by just using them in their smallest size without any oxidation. This is happening in the 20 minutes
development time. The oxidation process starts in step 2, as soon as the welloxon perfect pastel
developer is applied the colour pre-cursors & couplers link together & the colour starts going dark.
After “pigment lock” the hair can be enhanced with color fresh. WELLA THEORY B2

WHAT YOU SHOULD MAKE SURE OF BEFORE APPLICATION

Before beginning the treatment we recommend to make a sample strand to help to determine the
straightening effect and the precise development time. This is also helpful if the treatment history of
the particular hair structure cannot be ascertained precisely. Straighten It should always be applied to
unwashed hair. Protect outline areas, neck and ears with a skin protection cream.

Step 1 - FIRST TREATMENT (ON THE WHOLE HEAD)

Pre-Treatment - Apply Wella Professionals Perm Pre-Treatment over full head by beginning at the neck,
dividing the dry hair and, working from strand to strand and combing through. Do not rinse out.
The Pre-Treatment should be distributed, especially onto the more porous parts of the hair.

Step 2
Straightening, Fill a non metallic bowl with the appropriate variant of ready to use Straighten It Cream.
Apply with a brush starting at the nape area, working from strand to strand (approx 1 cm wide) at a
distance of approx 5mm from the head. Comb through once carefully with a comb.
Development times (see table for a precise breakdown)
Mild (for coloured and highlighted (up to 30%) Development time: Without heat approx 5-15 minutes.
Intense (for chemically untreated hair) Development time: Without heat approx 15-25 minutes.
The hair must NOT be covered during the development time.

Please take into account the fact that the product has already begun to take effect during the application
procedure. During the development time, start checking the result on a test strand for straightening effect,
beginning at shortest recommended development time. After the development time has elapsed, comb
through the hair once again with a wide toothed comb.

Step 3
Rrinse out the Straighten It Cream thoroughly, to continue with the ‘Cold Application’ technique,
go to Step 6. Neutralising, for the ‘Hot Application’ technique, continue with Step 4.

WELLA THEORY B3

Step 4
‘Hot Application’ technique Starting at the nape area blow dry the hair straight.

Step5
Straightening Iron: When using a ceramic straightening iron: Start at the nape area, divide the hair into
strands approx 1cm wide.
Slide through each strand approx. 1-2 times. Important: Do not keep the iron in one place for longer
than 3 seconds. The temperature adjustment of the iron depends on the variant selected and the
condition of the hair. Mild: for coloured, highlighted (up to 30%) and porous/damaged hair approx.
150° C Intense: for chemically untreated hair approx. 180° C

Step 6
Neutralising: either with application bottle or brush and bowl apply the Straighten It ready to use
neutraliser using the same quantity as for the Straighten It Cream used previously, apply carefully
working from strand to strand. Comb the hair straight and allow the neutraliser to take effect for 10
minutes. Ensure that the Straighten It neutraliser is evenly distributed throughout each section during the
development time. After the 10 minute development time has elapsed, rinse out the neutraliser thoroughly
and shampoo the hair.

Color Touch
Neutralising with Straighten It Neutraliser and Color Touch Cream: In place of the regular neutralising
you can also combine straightening and toning together. Colour Neutralising: Use the same amount
of ready to use Straighten It Neutraliser as the Straighten It Cream which you used previously. Mix with
desired shade of Color Touch in ratio 2:1 (2 parts Straighten It Neutraliser and 1 part Color Touch
Cream). Do not use any other Color Touch range apart from the core range excluding Special Mix. Apply
the ‘neutraliser’ mixture carefully working from strand to strand, comb the hair straight and allow the
colour neutralising to take effect for 10 minutes. After the 10 minute development time has elapsed, rinse
out the ‘neutraliser’ mixture thoroughly and shampoo the hair.

Step 7
Post Treatment: Apply Wella Professionals Post Treatment to damp hair, leave for 3-5 min then rinse.
Follow on with Wella Professionals Care Enrich Range.

Re-growth treatment (roots) - In the case of a Re-growth treatment, only treat the section of the hair
subject to re-growth (the root area).
In this case the re-growth should amount to at least 4 cm.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Straighten It is not recommended for bleached hair and hair that is more than 30% highlighted or is
extremely porous/damaged.

In general Straighten It can be applied to hair which has been dyed with plant based hair colouring.
However, before treatment it must be ensured that the colouring in question is of pure plant based origin
and contains no metallic salts. Straighten It may not be applied if the hair has already been treated with
plant based hair colouring which contains metallic salts. Under no circumstances may Straighten It be
applied to hair which has already been treated with an alkali relaxer containing SODIUM HYDROXIDE.
This also applies to “sodium hydroxide free” products containing POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, LITHIUM
HYDROXIDE or GUANIDINE CARBONATE. Straightening treatment is required there should be at least a
week left in between services.

CASE STUDIES
Case studies give all colourists a logical, step by step formula when carrying out any
colour application. In the same way that a clothes designer will follow a pattern, or a
chef will follow a recipe, case studies are our detailed directions when colouring.

Introducing and explaining case studies early in anyone’s hairdressing career, will ensure that they can
follow a precise guideline from early on. Once learnt, the principle of case studies will stay with them
throughout their hairdressing career, and will make a perfect colour selection much easier.

SO WHERE DO WE START...
There is a certain amount of information we need to gain prior to commencing the colour application.
A full consultation will be required to enable us to establish what the client requires, and the effect they
would like to achieve with colour. Once we have this information we will be able to decide the most
suitable brand and product to achieve their desired results.
We also need to assess the client’s hair in order to establish certain facts:

1 The first step is establishing the client’s natural base.

First we decide is it:
• Blonde
• Brown
• Black
From there we can establish is it light or dark blonde, light or dark Brown?
We now know the natural depth.

2 Is there any white hair, if so what % of white hair is present?

Is it evenly spread throughout the hair or just in a certain area?

3 Shade required, also sometimes referred to as Target shade.

Is the chosen colour on the same depth as natural hair?
If not, we can either lighten or darken - this will also help in selecting the most suitable product to achieve
the desired result. If going lighter than natural hair, how many levels of lightening are required?
This will also give us a strong indication as to which product we will need to use and the correct
developer strength.

4 Undercoat – if we are using permanent colour mixed with a developer, an undercoat will be achieved.
It is important to know what this is, as it will influence the end colour result.

5 Any colour remaining on the length and ends of the hair?

If so, what depth & tone can you see on the remaining colour. This will enable us to establish if the
previous colour is compatible with the new chosen colour, some preparation may be required on the
lengths and ends before the desired shade can be applied.
If we are going darker than previous colour, the undercoat will need to be replaced.
If we are choosing to go lighter, then the previous colour will need to be removed.
If there is no previous colour on the hair we will need to treat it is a virgin head application.

6 Condition – Is the hair sensitised or porous?

7 Once we have gathered all the facts, we can then decide on what product to use, and what the correct
application technique will be. WELLA CASE STUDIES C
