Dear Teachers,

This story “An Higot”, has been developed to aid you in teaching beginning reading. This has
been designed as a meaningful springboard to teach the target letter, to develop the thinking and
reasoning skills of the learners and to inculcate in them the love for reading.

Expectedly, with your creativity and careful planning, the following are the competencies that can
possibly be developed as you use this story:

The Rope

1. A typhoon was about to hit Helen’s place. “Let us get ready,” father said.
2. Mother prepared some food, water, flashlight and other things they need.
3. Helen put some clothes in a bag.
4. Meanwhile, Father got a long and thick rope.
5. “What will you do, father? asked Helen.
“I am going to tie our roof so that the strong winds won’t blow it away,” answered father.
6. Father tied tightly the roof with the long and thick rope.
7. The strong typhoon came.
8. Plenty of trees were uprooted. Many houses lost their roofs.
9. But Helen’s house still had the roof.
10. The family prayed. “Thank you, Lord, for your protection,” nanay said.
11. “Thank you also father that you tied our roof,” Helen said.
