Topics - Applications Of Derivatives Time - 60 Minutes
Followings are of 2 Marks each (Q01-05).
Q01. A man 2 m high, walks at a uniform speed of 6 m/min away from a lamp post, 5 m high. At what rate
the length of his shadow changes?
 π
Q02. Find the interval in which f (x)  cos 3x, x  0,  is increasing or decreasing.
 2
Q03. Find the values of ‘a’ and ‘b’ for which the function f (x)  sin x  ax  b strictly increases on R.
Q04. A particle moves in a straight line such that the distance covered by it in t seconds measured from a
 t3 
fixed point on the line is given by s    16 t  cm. Find its acceleration when velocity is zero.

Following is of 4 Marks (Q08).
Q08. CASE STUDY : Following is the pictorial description of a particular page for the printing purposes,
selected by a private school administration.

The total area of the page is 150 cm2.

The combined width of the margin at the top and bottom is 3 cm
and the side 2 cm.
Using the information given above, answer the following :
(i) Find the relation between x and y.
(ii) Find the area of the printable region of the page, in terms of x.
(iii) For what value of ‘x’, the printable area of the page is
maximum? Use derivatives.
(iv) What should be dimension of the page so that it has
maximum area to be printed? [1 4  4

Followings are of 5 Marks each (Q09-10).
