LAP-DAY 01 Philosophy

B. Introductory Activity

1.What aspect of yourself do you feel good about? Why?

The aspect of myself that I felt that I’m good is listening and making others happy, because I am
that kind of person where I prioritize others before myself. I am a good listener to others
problems, stories and even their life struggles, I would gladly listen to them and later on I will
comfort through making them happy.

2. What aspect of yourself do you believe you have to improve? Why?

The aspect of myself that I need to improve is being observant, because I hardly notice if the
person is upset or sad. For instance, I didn’t notice that I already offended someone through my
words. Another thing is that I’m not good at observing people actions and emotions. That’s
why I think being observant to others which I must improve more.

C. Analysis

Complete the Table. Choose only 3 Philosophers

PHILOSOPHER VIEW OF THE “SELF” COMPARE IT TO YOUR OWN

CONCEPT OF SELF
Socrates Know yourself In my opinion, knowing
oneself is necessary. We
must know ourselves,
everything about yourself
you must know it because it
is difficult for us to identify
and categorize yourself/
ourselves if you personally
doesn’t even know who you
are.
Rene Descartes I think, therefore I am In my own perspective, Rene
Descartes view of the self, I
thin, therefore I am explains
how we perceive our own
self. I believe that our self is
molded based on how we
thought or how we let our
mind rule to it. For instance,
if I doubt that I’m a girl, then
I think I’m not a girl then so I
act like not a girl. Same with
the gays.
Jhon Locke Personal Identity In my concept, Jhon Locke
view of self that Individuals
are free to define the content
of their character. I agree to
it for the reason that no one
can predict or decide to my
self characters. I am the one
responsible in shaping my
self identity that no one can
do it but only myself.

F. Evaluation/ Assessment Activity:

Make a reflection on: WHO AM I IN PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE.

I am what I perceive myself. I see myself based on how I perceived it and I act according on
how I perceived myself. I do perceived myself as a good person, therefore I am a good one.
It means that you define yourself base from what you see on yourself, if oneself perceived
that his not a good one then, it would not act a good one. I believed that in knowing
oneself, you perceive it first. Knowing yourself is a virtue, In relation to what socrates said
that “ virtue is necessary to obtain happiness” with that I agreed, that if we really know
ourselves then we’re able to recognize and perceived things that will make us happy and
would make yourself feel more contented.
