MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR THE ESSAY WRITING CONTEST

This Essay Writing Contest is part of the activities for the BPA Week.

A. Mechanics

1. Each year level is entitled to one (1) contestant as representative for the Essay Writing.

2. Contest shall be held at Carcar City GYm on November 27 at exactly 7:30am.

3. A question related to the theme of the 53rd Founding Anniversary shall be asked to serve as the main
topic which the participants shall write about. The question shall be given during the contest proper.

4. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 250 words and must not exceed500
words.

5. All essays must be original and previously unpublished.

6. All entries will be judged based on content, originality, structure and style.

7. The participants shall be given one (1) hour to write and finish their essay.

8. Paper will be provided by the organizer.

B. Criteria for Judging

Originality and Communication (40%) Essay should be original and clearly communicate student
essayist’s arguments on a given topic or theme in a logical and concise manner.

Content (40%) Essay should contain sufficient and sound evidence to support arguments and claims.

Writing Mechanics (20%) Essay should observe proper conventions of writing suchas grammar,
punctuations, capitalizations, and others.
