1 for Age word problem

1 For mixture Problem

1 For distance, rate, and time problem

AGE WORD PROBLEM:

A mother is 24 years older than her daughter. In 6 years, the mother will be twice as old as her
daughter. How old are the mother and the daughter now?

1. Define variables:
o Let xxx be the daughter's current age.
o The mother's current age is x+24x + 24x+24.
2. Set up the equation:
o In 6 years:
 Daughter's age: x+6x + 6x+6
 Mother's age: x+30x + 30x+30
o The mother will be twice the daughter’s age in 6 years: x+30=2(x+6)x + 30 = 2(x
+ 6)x+30=2(x+6)
3. Solve the equation:

x+30=2x+12x + 30 = 2x + 12x+30=2x+12

Subtract xxx from both sides:

30=x+1230 = x + 1230=x+12

Subtract 12 from both sides:

x=18x = 18x=18

4. Find the mother’s age:

x+24=18+24=42x + 24 = 18 + 24 = 42x+24=18+24=42

Final Answer:

 The daughter is 18 years old.

 The mother is 42 years old.
MIXTURE WORD PROBLEM

A company produces two types of premium coffee blends. The first blend is made by mixing
beans that cost $12 per pound, and the second blend is made by mixing beans that cost $8 per
pound. The company wants to make 100 pounds of a new blend that costs $10 per pound. How
many pounds of each type of bean should be used to create the 100-pound blend?

 First type of beans: $12 per pound

 Second type of beans: $8 per pound
 Total blend weight: 100 pounds
 Desired cost of the new blend: $10 per pound

Solution:

1. Let x = pounds of $12 per pound beans.

2. Let y = pounds of $8 per pound beans.

We have the system of equations:

1. x+y=100x + y = 100x+y=100
2. 12x+8y=100012x + 8y = 100012x+8y=1000

Solve:

From the first equation, y=100−xy = 100 - xy=100−x.

Substitute y=100−xy = 100 - xy=100−x into the second equation:

12x+8(100−x)=100012x + 8(100 - x) = 100012x+8(100−x)=1000 12x+800−8x=100012x + 800 -

8x = 100012x+800−8x=1000 4x+800=10004x + 800 = 10004x+800=1000 4x=2004x =
2004x=200 x=50x = 50x=50

Now, substitute x=50x = 50x=50 into y=100−xy = 100 - xy=100−x:

y=100−50=50y = 100 - 50 = 50y=100−50=50

Final Answer:

 50 pounds of $12 per pound beans

 50 pounds of $8 per pound beans
DISTANCE, RATE, AND TIME PROBLEM

A plane is flying from City A to City B, a distance of 600 miles. The plane flies with a speed of
300 miles per hour (mph) on the way to City B, but on the return trip from City B to City A, the
plane encounters strong headwinds that reduce its speed to 250 miles per hour. How much longer
does it take the plane to return from City B to City A than it took to fly from City A to City B?

Given:

 Distance = 600 miles

 Speed from City A to City B = 300 mph
 Speed from City B to City A = 250 mph

Solution:

1. Time to fly from City A to City B:

Time A to B=600300=2 hours\text{Time}_\text{A to B} = \frac{600}{300} = 2 \, \

text{hours}Time A to B=300600=2hours

2. Time to fly from City B to City A:

Time B to A=600250=2.4 hours\text{Time}_\text{B to A} = \frac{600}{250} = 2.4 \, \

text{hours}Time B to A=250600=2.4hours

3. Difference in time:

Difference=2.4−2=0.4 hours=24 minutes\text{Difference} = 2.4 - 2 = 0.4 \, \text{hours} = 24 \, \

text{minutes}Difference=2.4−2=0.4hours=24minutes

Final Answer:

It takes 24 minutes longer to return from City B to City A.
