MIXTURE PROBLEM

Q2: A Pharmacist needs to prepare 200 milliliters of 30% alcohol solution by

mixing a 20% alcohol solution and a 50% alcohol solution . how much of each
solution should be used ?

SOLUTION CONCENTRATION AMOUNT (ML) AMOUNT OF ALCOHOL

20% 0.2 x 0.2x

50% 0.5 y 0.5y

FINAL MIXTURE 0.3 200 0.3 x 200= 60

EXPLANATION : Form the 1st equation y=200-x

substitute y=200-x into the second equation 0.2 x + 0.5 ( 200-x) = 60 0.2 x +100 -
0.5x = 60 - 0.3 x= - 40 =133.33 y = 200 -133.33= 66.67.

DISTANCE RATE AND TIME
