1.

If you were asked, what teacher qualities are strong and weak in our
present-day teachers?

For me, the strong qualities I see in today's teachers are that they exude positivity,
hold high expectations, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Today's teachers are
trying to build strong teacher-student relationships to make it easier for both to
understand each other and avoid anyone being left behind academically. First strong
qualities of a teachers are to exude positivity in the classroom, making students feel
comfortable because they create a positive atmosphere. They show hopefulness
and confidence to their students, which encourages the children to strive harder for
their success. Secondly is holding high expectations. It's not that the students will
suffer because the expectations are high; for me, as a future educator, holding high
expectations is about giving students a challenge they can overcome so that their
next level will be easier. It helps them rise to meet the high standards I set. When
you have high expectations, you show confidence in your students' abilities, and
they will strive to reach the standards that the teacher is looking for. Lastly,
cultivating a sense of belonging is crucial. As a future educator, I understand that
not all students are fast learners or even average students, there are also slow
learners. It seems to me that today's teachers do a good job of helping slow
learners because they don't let them fall behind. I remember when I was in
elementary school, my teacher made our seating arrangement three columns: the
first column was for students who needed the most focus, the second was for
average students, and the third was for the advanced ones. While I don’t believe it’s
ideal to classify students as slow or fast learners, it does help you as a teacher to
more easily identify the students who need extra attention.

For me, the weaknesses of teachers today are technological proficiency, giving
feedback to students, and classroom management. Teachers also have weaknesses
they need to address. For instance, in terms of technological proficiency, those who
have been teaching for a long time are really used to the traditional way of
teaching, but now they need to embrace the world of technology. This is a weakness
because not all teachers are skilled in using technology. The second is giving
feedback to students. Because there are so many students, teachers find it difficult
to provide constructive feedback to each student individually. The third is classroom
management. In public schools, classroom management is challenging due to
overcrowding, which can make it difficult to maintain discipline and ensure effective
learning. I think that to improve classroom management, public schools need to
maintain a manageable number of students per teacher to ensure effective learning
and to allow students to receive the constructive feedback they need to better
understand the areas where they need to improve academically.
2. Do a self-check of your qualities as a future teacher. Do you have the
making of a good, great, or effective teacher? Why or why not?

Being a good teacher is based on your experience throughout years of being a

teacher, but for us who are future teachers, I make sure that I will do everything I
can to be a good teacher in the future. I will base qualities from our discussion
"Twelve Characteristics of an Effective Teacher" by Dr. Robert Walker (2008). This
serves as a guide for teachers to help them recognize and develop good qualities.

I can say that I am prepared for what I do now that I am a student, but sometimes I
inevitably become careless with schoolwork. However, as much as possible, I
convince myself to be a prepared and responsible student as my guide and practice
for my future career. Secondly, I guarantee that I exude positivity. Why? It's natural
for me to be happy, and I pass that on because I want only positive vibes in the
classroom, with no negative vibes or thoughts, and no hate entering. I always want
to be positive and keep my atmosphere happy. Third is holding high expectations. I
believe I will soon be the one who has high expectations for my students because I
know that my future students need my standards to be high for them to excel in
everything they do. They also need to be challenged, as this is one of the things
that will help them in the future circumstances they will face. I want to have high
expectations for them because I have enough trust that they can meet and exceed
my standards. Fourth is demonstrating creativity. I love adding a twist to everything,
and I enjoy incorporating art into my work, so I can say that I will be a creative
teacher someday. As a student, I appreciate teachers who add art to their lessons to
make them engage, so I want to do the same for my future students so they can
experience what we experienced. I also want to make them experience what they
study while enjoying and letting their creativity come out. Fifth is exercising
fairness. As a teacher, it is our obligation to treat students fairly, both in academics
and with respect as individuals. I will do my best to be fair and just to my students
in the future. Sixth is displaying a personal touch. Honestly, I don't usually share my
life with others, but I'll make sure to share my life experiences that are connected to
our lessons or topics so they can serve as a guide for my students' future decisions.
Seventh is cultivating a sense of belonging. Honestly, I am the type of person who
doesn’t want anyone to be left behind, even in my personal life. I know that in the
future, I will be welcoming to all students so that they can feel that I care for them
as their teacher. Eighth is showing compassion. I appreciate it when someone opens
up to me because it makes me feel important and trusted with their problems or
secrets. I will strive to understand my future students to the best of my ability. I
want them to feel that I am concerned and that they have someone to lean on when
their world is falling apart. I aim to be a supportive figure, like a second parent, for
students who need advice and support. Nineth possesses a sense of humor. I think
I'm 50/50 on this because, yes, humor is needed to make the classroom happy, but
it also needs some seriousness so that students take the subject and their teacher
seriously. I will be funny with my students, but with limitations, and I will make sure
that they enjoy each lesson and are excited for the next one. Tenth is respecting
students. In this regard, I can truly guarantee that I will fulfill this no matter what
happens because everyone deserves respect. I will show respect to my students to
earn their respect in return. I believe that what you show students is what they will
show you. The eleventh is modeling forgiveness. I'll surely do this because we all
make mistakes. Even as a student, I know that I have made mistakes, so I'm ready
to forgive students if they err. However, I won’t allow them to make the same
mistake repeatedly; it will be a lesson learned from their error. As a teacher
someday, we need to be forgiving and patient with students because we have also
experienced being students. Lastly, admitting mistakes. I know, even as a student,
that a teacher does not know everything because they have also studied. As a
future teacher, I will accept with all my heart if there is a mistake or error in my
actions or lessons. I will view this as additional knowledge to use in the future
because I believe that it is not only teachers who teach students, but we also need
to learn from our students.

As human beings, it is normal not to immediately achieve the good qualities that
are accepted or expected in the world, but if we work hard, we will be able to
achieve them. As a future teacher, I will continually study and strive to develop the
qualities of a good teacher. While I can’t avoid making mistakes, it doesn’t mean I
can’t change. Mistakes will serve as my guide for future challenges as a real teacher
someday.
