Skills Fitness: Powering the Skills-Based Organization with Performance Data 9

Performance evaluations were ranked as the single most important

method for measuring skills and competencies (69%), but if those
assessments are infrequent, an accurate and current view of skills is
likely not being captured. Neither employees nor their managers will be
able to recall and verify all the skills the employee has acquired over a
6-12-month period. And bad data leads to bad decisions.

Performance management systems that drive frequent engagement

between managers and employees are able to maintain a current and
accurate record of skills for every employee in the organization. HR
and managers will be better equipped to understand their employees’
skills and skills adjacencies and how to develop them internally to meet
organizational needs. This, in turn, will lead to better talent decisions
and stronger internal mobility.
