3. God’s word gives us peace of mind.
Let us read about a woman who listened to God and showed
courage in fighting the enemies. She is the patroness of soldiers.
St. Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc came from a family of peasants
who lived in the small village called Domremy,
near the province of Lorraine in France. As a
young child, she heard the voices of three saints;
namely, St. Margaret, St. Catherine, and St.
Michael, who gave her personal messages.
One day, she received a message telling her
to go to the king and assist him in recovering the lost kingdom.
The king believed in her, and she was given a small army to fight
the enemies. She became successful in her military career until
one day, she was captured by the enemies. She was accused of
sorcery and heresy. Then she was imprisoned, tried in a court, and
was sentenced to death.
On May 30, 1431, she was burned at the stake. After 30
years, she was proven innocent of the accusations against her. In
1920, she was declared a saint.

CONTENT DISCUSSION:
John 8:3-11 One day the teachers of the law brought in a woman
to Jesus. They said that the woman was a sinner and should be
stoned to death.
Jesus bent down and started writing on the ground with his
finger. And as they continue to ask him, he straightened up and
said to them, “Let the man among you who has no sin be the first
to throw the stone at her.” And he bent down again and wrote on
the ground.
As a result of these words, they went away, one by one,
starting with the oldest until Jesus was the only one left with the
woman standing before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said
to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
She replied, “No one.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go
away and don’t sin again.”
Directions: Read each question. Then write your

The Sacrament of Penance
In the sacrament of penance, we ask God’s forgiveness of
sins we have committed. One should take note of the following to
have a good confession.
1. Accepting one’s sins before God is important.
2. One should confess all serious sins to the priest who is acting
in the person of Christ.
17
3. Penance is something that a sinner does or is tasked to do in
order to correct his/her mistakes and to prove that he/she
regrets his/her wrongdoings.
4. God expresses his desire to forgive us through absolution
given by the priest.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
TOUCHING HEARTS:
1. We are all sinners
- We should accept that all people are sinners and in need
of God’s forgiveness. This is the first step to show that we
are sincere in our intention of coming back to the loving
arms of God the Father.
2. We are called to forgive others
- We receive the forgiveness of God through the sacrament
of penance. Since we are forgiven by God, we are also
asked to forgive those who sinned against us.
3. We are invited to receive God’s forgiveness in the
sacrament of penance.
- CCC 1422 “Those who approach the sacrament of
penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offence
committed against him, and are, ate the same time,
reconciled with the church which they have wounded by
their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer
labors for their conversion.”
