Materials. 25 grams UK 4ply Yarn for dress set (15 Red & 10 White approx.) 1 button.
18inches narrow ribbon and a small ribbon motif if required. 1 pair 2.75mm needles.
I used Patons Fairytale Dreamtime 4ply in Red (R) and Sirdar Snuggly 4ply in white, both of which are
slightly thicker than sock yarn.
Gauge = 1square inch of pattern = approx. 12rows x 8sts on 2.75mm needles
Knitting Abbreviations
dec = decrease inc = increase K2tog = knit 2 together
K = knit P= purl
M1= pick up the loop between the last and next st and work in to the back of this loop
St/s = stitch/es tog = together
YFWD = yarn forward yo = yarn over yrn = yarn round needle
Now join in the White (W) yarn where required and complete the lower half stripe section.
Row 1. Knit in White.
Row 2. (W) K3, purl to last 3sts, k3.
Rows 3 and 4, Knit in Red.
Rows 5 through 8, work as rows 1 through 4.
Row 9. (W), *(K5, M1,) repeat from * to last 5sts, k5. =47sts
Row 10. (W) K3, purl to last 3sts, k3.
Rows 11 and 12, Knit in Red.
Place marker, this will be where the back seam is sewn up to.
Row 25. (W), *(K7, M1,) repeat from * to last 5sts, k5. =61sts
Row 26. (W) Purl. Work now measures 2.25inches from first White stripe row.
Rows 27 through 31, Knit in Red.
Cast off knitwise.
With right sides together oversew the back seam to where we placed the marker, sew on the button
HAT .
Using size 2.75mm needles and Red yarn, cast on 55sts using thumb method.
Rows 1 through 10, Knit.
Row 11. *(K3, k2tog,) repeat from * to end. =44sts
Row 12. Knit.
Row 13. *(K2, k2tog,) repeat from * to end. =33sts
Row 14. Knit.
Join in the White yarn and continue the rest of the pattern in garter stitch by knitting 2 rows White
and 2 rows Red stripe pattern.
Row 15. Knit in White increasing 1 stitch at each end of the row = 35sts.
Rows 16 through 34, Knit in stripe pattern.
Row 35. K1, *(k2tog,) repeat from * to end. =18sts
Row 36. Knit.
Row 37. *(K2tog,) repeat from * to end. =9sts.
Break yarn, thread through the 9sts and with right sides together sew up back seam, remembering
to reverse the work when you reach the brim.
