Little Bear
Unisex tank top, with side opening and wide square neckline, panel with central lace motif. Worked
in one piece starting from the front and ending at the back. The body has 5 stitch wide side borders
in garter stitch.
Material
• 100-150gr Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk 4ply (170m for 50gr) or similar
• 3.25-3.5 and 4.5 needles
• 3 markers
• Tapestry needle
Cast on
I suggest a knit-wise cast-on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xocjmpglM1Q), but work first row
alternating stitches worked through front loop and stitches worked twisted, i.e. through back loop,
for a nicer cast on edge.
Method
With the 4.5mm needles, CO 57 (63) st. Switch to 3.5mm needles and work 4 rows in garter stitch.
Continue working in stockinette stitches, except the first and last 5 stitches to be worked in garter
stitch, and centering the bear claw motif, as follows:
Row 1 (Right Side): k17 (20), insert marker M1, follow Bear Claw pattern, insert marker M2,
k17(20)
Row 2 (Wrong Side): k5, p12(15), slip M1, Bear Claw pattern, slip M2, p12(15), k5
Repeat the two rows above until you have worked:
for size 18 months: 3 Bear Claw motifs + an additional partial one up to Row 7
for size 24 months: 4 Bear Claw motifs
End with a row on the RS of work.
Then:

Row 2 (RS): k57(63)
Repeat the above two rows 2 more times.

two rows. 47 (53) st
Keeping following the Bear Claw pattern, start decreasing as follows:
Row 1: k5, k2tog, knit to the last 7 st, s1k1psso, k5
Row 2: k5, purl to the last 5 st, k5
Work the two rows above 3 more times (for a total of 8 decreases, 4 each side). 39 (45) st
Keep working following the Bear Claw pattern until you have worked:
for size 18 months: one partial motif up to row 11
for size 24 months: one full motif.
On the first row on the WS, start working the border of the neck opening in garter stitch:
Row 1 (WS): k39(45) (remove markers)
Row 2 (RS): k39(45)
Repeat the above two rows 3 more times.
On the next row (RS), cast off purlwise the 19 (21) center stitches. Join a new skein and carry on
working the two 10 (12) st parts in garter stitch for 16 (20) rows. Insert a marker for the shoulder
mid-point. Work in garter stitch for another 8 (10) rows. On the next RS row:
Row 1: k10(12), cast on 19(21) st, k10(12). 39 (45) st
Work 8 (10) more rows in garter stitch then:
