I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

Good morning children
I hope everyone is doing fine and ate your breakfast before going
to school. Because it’s bad if you’re going to skip the most
important meal of the day. Are we clear?

Yes, teacher!
D. Checking of Attendance
May I call on your class mayor? Yes, Zac who are the absentees
for today?
I’m very glad that none of you are absent for today, because of
that I want to give yourselves a GOOD JOB CLAP
E. Review
Before we proceed to our discussion, I want to know if you still
remember our yesterday’s topic.
Maricel buys 5 star apples for P5.00 each and 3 guyabanos for
P32.50 each. She gives the cashier a P200.00 bill. Write an
expression for the amount of fruits she buys and an equation for
the change the cashier should give to her.
Give the following equation and explain which is the left member
and which is the right member: 3x + 5 = 20.
Tell the pupils that this time, you will be translating sentences
instead of phrases. The technique is very much the same as the
previous lesson except that this time, it already involves the equal
sign and on either side of the equal sign is a phrase that is
represented by an algebraic expression.
Give the following examples. Show how you translate the first
example, then ask the pupils to translate the rest. Again, allow the
pupils to use a letter they prefer for the variable.
twenty-two: 2(x + 2) = 22
5. The product of thirteen less than thrice
a number and five will result in forty-
H. Application five: (3x - 13) × 5 = 45
Give the following scenarios and ask pupils to do what is asked in
the problem.
( The students will answer individually)
1. Mr. and Mrs. Panen own a laundry shop. They had 134
customers this week, 18 fewer than last week. Write an algebraic
equation for the number of customers they had last week? x - 18 = 134
2. Aling Martha, when asked about her age, replies "I am six years
older than twice the age of my youngest child." Express her age in
algebraic equation if her age is now 66. 66 = 2x + 6

IV. EVALUATION
V. ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS: Solve each problem below by writing an algebraic equation and finding the value of the
variable.
1. A number subtracted from 8 is equal to 5. Find the number.
2. Three times a number increased by 4 is equal to 19. Find the number.
3. Twice a number plus 7 is equal to 25. Find the number.
4. The sum of two consecutive even numbers is 34. Find the numbers.
5. Four times a number minus 10 is equal to 22. Find the number.
6. The perimeter of a rectangle is 40 meters. If the length of the rectangle is 4 meters longer than its width, find
the dimensions of the rectangle.
7. Five less than twice a number is equal to 17. Find the number.
8. The sum of three consecutive integers is 42. Find the integers.
9. The cost of 3 pens and 2 notebooks is $18. If each pen costs $4 more than each notebook, find the cost of
each pen and each notebook.
10. The length of a rectangle is 3 times its width. If the perimeter is 30 inches, find the dimensions of the
rectangle.
