Detailed Lesson Plan in English Grade 7

I. OBJECTIVES

a. Determine the rules on the degrees of comparison of modifiers according to syllables


b. Construct sentences showing the degrees of comparison of adjectives
c. Underline the adjectives used in sentences and name its degree of comparison

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Focus: Making comparisons degrees of comparison

Materials: Laptop, Projector, Cartolina

III. PROCEDURE

6. Discussion
So class in adjective there are three degrees of
comparison in which adjective can show a change on
the degree of quality.
These are the following:
1. positive
2. comparative
3. superlative

(everybody read) (The students will read)


When we say positive class, it is considered as a
simple form of adjective that does not involve
comparison
Examples:
a. Tall
b. Beautiful
c. comfortable
And now class let’s use these examples in a sentence
a. She is tall
b. Lara is a beautiful girl
c. Mike is comfortable with me
Is it clear class? So what did you notice on my
examples? -sir, positive degree of adjective only describes the noun.
It does not compare anyone or anything.
Very good!

And the next is the comparative degree of adjective;


it is used to compare two persons or things. And the
word “Than” usually accompanies the comparative.
Examples:
a. Taller
b. More comfortable
c. More beautiful

Class, let’s use these examples in a sentence


a. Ana is taller than Maria
b. Maki is more comfortable than Anton
c. Amy is more beautiful than Lisa
Now class, look at my examples is there any
comparison made? -yes sir
What words are used to show comparison? -sir the words used are taller, more comfortable and more
Very good! beautiful
And next class, who are compared? On example - sir Ana is compared to Maria
letter a?
Very good!
What about example letter b? Who are compared? -sir Maki is compared to Anton
Very good!
And lastly class, who are compared on the example -sir Amy is compared to Lisa
letter c?
Very good class! All your answers are correct (students will clap 5 times)

And next is the superlative degree, it is used to


compare more than two persons or things. And the
word “The” precedes the superlative
Examples:
a. Tallest
b. Most intelligent
c. Most punctual
And now class, let’s use these examples in a
sentence

a. Jose is the tallest among the boys


b. Athena is the most intelligent among the
class.
c. Joey is the most punctual in the class

Now class look at my examples, is there comparison
made?
-sir Dan, Jose and Athena are compared to the class
Who are compared class?
Very good!

And now class I have here group of words arranged


according to the degree of comparison, try to read
and observe the changes.

Tall-taller-tallest
Large-larger-largest
Short-shorter-shortest

What did you notice class? -sir the words are added –er and –est at the end
Very good!
So class adjectives with one syllable form their
comparative and superlative by adding –er and –est -yes sir
respectively. Did you understand class?

What about the second group of words class? What


did you see? -sir all of those words ends with letter y
Heavy-heavier-heaviest
Funny-funnier-funniest
Pretty-prettier-prettiest

Very good! So what did you notice class? -sir in forming the comparative and superlative of those
Very good class! words, y is being changed by the letter i.
Adjectives with two syllables ending in y for their
comparative and superlative degree by changing y to
i and add –er and –est respectively -yes sir
Did you understand class?

What about the third group of words class?


Beautiful-more beautiful-most beautiful
Interesting-less interesting-least interesting -sir they are being added with more/most/less
Expensive-less expensive-most expensive

What did you notice class? What happen to those


words?
Very good! So class, adjectives with three or more
syllables form their comparative and superlative
degree by adding more/less most/least. Did you -yes sir
understand class?

What about the fourth group of words class?


Good-better-best
Bad-worse-worst
Little-less-least

What did you notice class? -sir there is changes in spelling when they form
Very good! comparative and superlative
So class, certain adjectives have irregular forms in
the comparative and superlative degrees

Generalization

So again class, what are the three degrees of


comparison? -sir the three degrees of comparison are positive,

Now class, I will divide you into four groups this


will be the group 1-2-3&4 (students arrange their group)
And what you’re going to do now is, construct
sentences using the degrees of comparison of
adjectives use the given words

2. Careful-more careful-most careful
3. Happy-happier-happiest
4. Helpful-more helpful-most helpful
Each group will be given cartolina to serve as
answer sheet. Is it clear class? -yes sir

(the teacher will distribute cartolina in each group)
