Statement of Purpose

I truly believe in the idea that what makes us human is the fact that we have an undying urge to
question and reason. Since childhood, I have been a curious boy and elders around me have
complained about my exceptional ability to question about everything. This urge to question has
impeded an undying spirit for me to look for the answers which include topics related to Life,
community engagement and education.
I am eager to pursue an MA in Philosophy, driven by my fascination with the precision and clarity
that analytic methods bring to complex philosophical questions. My academic journey has been
characterized by a sustained engagement with philosophical problems and a commitment to
rigorous inquiry. With a BA in Philosophy, where I concentrated on epistemology and philosophy of
language, I have developed a strong foundation in analytic techniques and a passion for exploring
the fundamental aspects of meaning, knowledge, and logic. And I hope to develop models in the
near future and contribute to my community wherein I can solve various complex problems and also
to pursue my aspirations and becoming a Professor.

I had completed my bachelor’s degree from the prestigious University of Delhi which played a very
pivotal role in my academics. I studied Philosophy and Political Science at my University. Our
classrooms were full of discussions, ideas and brainstorming sessions where every student had very
insightful thoughts and arguments which enriched our classroom programme. In Philosophy I
studied various papers which included Western Modern Philosophers, Logic Methodologies, Indian
Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, etc. I did enjoy all the papers, which my university had to offer
but my favourite lecture papers were Ethics and Buddhism. I was very fascinated by the idea of how
society functions and which hypothetical models developed by philosophers are very much needed
to cater the people of diverse cultures and how things are differentiated in many cultures. I studied
Kinds of Punishments and various other key elements of society and how a society can be
progressive and prosperous by its conduct and approach. Buddhism as my last semester paper
brought a novel approach for me to understand things around me and how an individual and society
as a whole can lead to a path of prosperity and peace with the help of the middle path which is the
very basics of Buddhism. Each Professor who has guided me throughout my journey of the
undergraduate program have inspired me with something new every time. In college, I realised that
with the right people and a good attitude, you are unstoppable and you are always learning.

In university, I participated in the Devbhoomi society and I was elected to the post of South Campus
Secretary where I had more than 20 colleges of Delhi University’s South Campus, where I was given
various leadership roles and responsibilities. I was very proud of conducting various seminars,
webinars and cultural programs where we showcase our traditions and dance forms. This society has
given me a wonderful platform to enhance and polish my leadership qualities and an experience of
working in an environment with a large number of people and how to solve issues and hold to
camaraderie.

I have attended Army Public School, Saugor which is a welfare school which impeded me with high
principles of patriotism and service to mankind. My school was run by Indian Army officers and with
their specialised wing AWES [ Army Welfare Education Society], my school gave me an insight into
various cultures and traditions pan India. India is the melting point of cultures, traditions and
communities and is a vast country with great geographical extent. I am very confident that it's not
possible to experience and learn all the cultures it has to offer but my school gave me a plethora of
these extravagant cultures. My teachers to whom I owe everything which I know today are my
source of motivation and courage. My Principal Mrs Jyoti Dubey had always encouraged me to break
the boundaries and go beyond. Similarly, my Classroom teacher Mrs Sonal Jaishekhar has always
pushed us and always made us believe that we are meant to be unstoppable and never doubt
ourselves and our very own aspirations. I studied Humanities and along with it Economics and
Psychology in my Senior Secondary School.

I have participated in various school programs and have been a host to many programs. I have been
elected to School prefix and have carried away my responsibilities. I have been Stream Topper of
Humanities in Board Exams. I have enjoyed the school’s speaking and Debating competitions and
various other Olympiads held at the school level.

As an individual, I have a lot to learn and overcome my unconscious false beliefs and for that, I need
a more engaging and aspiring being around. I as an individual truly want to make a difference in the
lives of our community and of the lives of underprivileged beings. I strongly believe that education is
a portal to endless solutions and possibilities. I want to be a part of Nottingham Trent University
prestigious program and want to create a difference in the lives of dwellers of the 21 st century. I
have an undying hope to create such models and contribute with my counterparts in the
programme, wherein we find and create solutions whether it be in the field of academics, research,
Ethics, or World Peace and make our Community much more united and Stronger than ever before.

I will be very fortunate and will owe tremendous gratitude to Your prestigious University if I am
allowed to join the Nottingham Trent University and be part of the engaging and progressing
student body.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours Sincerely
Yugal Pokhriyal.
