My name is Jovee Mae L.

Mayor, 23 years old and currently living in

Sto. Domingo St. Purok 2, Tagas, Daraga, Albay. I was born on May 16,
2001 at Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital (BRTTH). My
father is Joseph M. Mayor, he works as a mason painter while my
mother Ma. Salve L. Mayor is a sole proprietor.
Growing up we aren’t well off, even though my parents work tirelessly
there are times where we’ll be struggling financially and I have to take
some side hustles while also studying. These hardships are my
motivation to excel in my academics and finish my degree. I was a
consistent honor student in high school and graduated in secondary
level with academic distinction, with this I was able to secure three
scholarships when I entered tertiary level.
I was fortunate enough to pass the entrance exam in Bicol University
way back in 2019, I took up Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in Bicol
University College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. During my stay in
BUCSSP I was exposed to different philosophies, theories, and most
importantly I had a first-hand experience studying closely the different
societal and political issues in our society, most specifically here in our
country. This opens my eyes to the multi-sectoral problems and how
this affects each individual. These realizations and learnings that I
have gained allows me to take action into my social responsibilities,
during this time I started joining different organization for social cause.
As part of my advocacy I spearheaded different movements, activities,
projects, and programs for the community which address social issues
and caters to the needs of those in the marginalized sector of our
society.
As a product of Social Studies, I felt compelled to take part into
changing our society into a better place for the future generations, and
one way of doing so is through teaching. I know that education is a
fundamental part of society, it helps people understand the world,
know their rights, and make good choices. Teaching people about how
society works and their role in it, it makes a country stronger and
keeps it going.

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL ESSAY
My name is Jovee Mae L. Mayor, and I am 23 years old. Currently,
I reside at Sto. Domingo Street, Purok 2, Tagas, Daraga, Albay. I was
born on May 16, 2001, at the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training
Hospital (BRTTH). My upbringing is grounded in the values of hard
work, resilience, and determination, instilled in me by my parents,
Joseph M. Mayor and Ma. Salve L. Mayor. My father is employed as a
mason painter, devoting himself to physically demanding work that
helps support our family. My mother is a sole proprietor, independently
managing her own business. Despite their diligent efforts, financial
stability has often been challenging for us.

Growing up in a family with limited means, I learned the

importance of perseverance early on. My parents’ relentless work ethic
and sacrifices to provide for our family inspired me to approach my
own responsibilities with the same dedication. There were times when
financial struggles required me to take on side jobs while continuing
my studies. These experiences shaped my resilience and
determination, motivating me to strive for academic excellence.
Education became my pathway to a better future, and I committed
myself to this pursuit wholeheartedly.

Throughout my high school years, I maintained a record of

academic distinction, consistently performing well in my studies. My
efforts were recognized, and I graduated with honors. This
achievement allowed me to secure three scholarships when I entered
tertiary education, easing the financial burden on my family and
further motivating me to excel. In 2019, I passed the entrance exam at
Bicol University, a pivotal moment in my academic journey. I was
admitted to the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology program at the College of
Social Sciences and Philosophy (BUCSSP), a field that resonated deeply
with my aspirations and interests.

My time at Bicol University was transformative, both

academically and personally. The study of sociology exposed me to a
diverse range of philosophies, theories, and perspectives. I gained
invaluable knowledge about societal structures, cultural dynamics, and
political frameworks, particularly those that affect our society in the
Philippines. More importantly, I developed a keen awareness of the
multi-sectoral issues facing our nation. Through my coursework, I
examined complex social and political challenges and observed the
profound impact these issues have on individuals and communities,
especially those in marginalized sectors.

These insights into societal issues fostered a deep sense of social

responsibility within me. I felt compelled to translate my understanding
into meaningful action. During my time at university, I joined various
organizations focused on social causes, where I had the opportunity to
contribute actively to initiatives addressing critical societal needs. As
part of my advocacy, I took on leadership roles, organizing and
spearheading numerous projects, programs, and movements. These
initiatives aimed to address pressing social issues and provide support
to vulnerable and underserved groups within our community. Engaging
in these efforts not only reinforced my commitment to making a
positive impact but also allowed me to develop skills in leadership,
teamwork, and project management.

As a graduate in the field of Social Studies, I am driven by a

strong commitment to contribute to societal transformation, striving to
make a difference for future generations. I firmly believe that
education plays a foundational role in achieving this goal. Education
equips individuals with the knowledge to understand the world around
them, empowers them to exercise their rights, and enables them to
make informed and constructive decisions. By dedicating myself to
teaching, I hope to impart an understanding of society’s complex
structures and help individuals recognize their potential to effect
positive change. Educating people on the significance of their roles
within society strengthens the fabric of our nation, fostering resilience,
unity, and progress for all.

In conclusion, the challenges I have faced and the lessons I have

learned along my journey have instilled in me a deep sense of purpose
and a desire to contribute meaningfully to my community. Through my
experiences, both academic and personal, I have come to realize the
transformative power of knowledge and the impact that
compassionate, informed action can have on society. I am committed
to using my education and experiences to empower others, advocate
for social justice, and work toward a more equitable and inclusive
future for all.

TEACHING CREDO

"Empowering Minds: A Transformative Approach to Teaching and

Learning"
My philosophy as a pre-service teacher is centered around
fostering a growth mindset, promoting inclusivity, and creating a safe
space for exploration and learning. I believe that every student has the
potential to excel in their studies with the right support and
encouragement, and I am committed to helping them discover and
unleash their full potential. Education, to me, is a process of
empowering individuals to think critically, act independently, and
engage meaningfully with the world. Teaching is not simply about
delivering facts; it is about fostering curiosity, guiding exploration, and
encouraging students to challenge existing ideas.
Every student is unique, shaped by their social and cultural
backgrounds, and they bring valuable perspectives to the classroom.
My role as a teacher is to recognize these differences, adapt to their
needs, and create an inclusive environment where everyone can grow.
I am dedicated to creating a classroom that values collaboration,
respect, and critical thinking—a community where students feel safe to
express themselves, explore ideas, and support each other's growth.

For me, the classroom should be a space of dialogue and

community-building, with resources serving as tools to facilitate
learning. At the heart of education lies the relationships formed and
the critical exchange of ideas. Ultimately, I see education as a
transformative practice that prepares students not only for personal
success but also for contributing to a more just and equitable society.
Through nurturing each student’s potential, I aim to create an
environment that empowers them to become active, thoughtful
participants in the world.
