Role Summary
The role will be primarily responsible for network planning and engineering of IP WAN services which
includes services like Layer 2 VPNs (draft Martini & Kompella), Layer 3 aka MPLS VPNs,Virtual Private LAN
services (VPLS) and IP Transit services to GCX’s Enterprise customers.
He/she shall also be responsible for all the design and service review of all the customer design from the core
perspective and equipment orders for GCX’s fast-growing telecom business.
The candidate would also work towards standardization of equipments & software images along with
document standardization which includes configuration templates & guidelines, MOPs, Troubleshooting
guidelines, Capacity utilization graphs well in advance to meet GCX’s current & future business requirements
for existing and new services.
The candidate would be also responsible for accurately identifying and recommending
hardware/equipments/software in order to stay ahead of infrastructure load requirements, and also
creates/maintains repeatable process/procedure documentation for all provisioning tasks.
In addition to the above roles, the candidate would work towards integration of legacy network into GCX
global network infrastructure and also plan & design GCX’s existing global infrastructure with respect to new
features, scaling, performance, and complex customized solution’s to meet the current & future services.
To analyze IP network traffic engineering and capacity related issues and make recommendations for
growth forecast and network optimization.
To monitor and review IP network configuration issues and makes appropriate recommendations.
To provide support on comprehensive network design specifications for additions and upgrades of
backbone infrastructure, support network integration in the area of traffic and performance tuning
utilizing network management hardware, software, and diagnostic equipment.
To provide support to implementation & maintains hardware and software standards of backbone
network elements with regard to planning, expansion and growth of network
To provide handoff support for networking needs, analysis and installation to support integration of
multiple hardware platforms within a large complex backbone network system.
To participate in planning, designing, installing and configuring local and wide area networks.
To configure and maintain network switches, routers, servers and various voice data and security
appliances.
To be responsible for the daily monitoring of the network and security appliances.
To develop and follow procedures that handle network and security fault events.
To apply continuous improvement techniques to ensure the network and security infrastructure, to
attain maximum performance, security and availability and provides reports regarding this topic to
management.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all parts of the organization while under pressure.
Must be familiar with LAN/WAN Infrastructure in order to assist in implementation and security
recommendations to the Infrastructure Support Team.
To assist in planning and implementation of setting platform expansions and translation changes.
Shall create network-specific technical information within defined documentation standards.
To analyze and troubleshoot network & signaling communication failures and bottlenecks.
Understanding of IPv4 & IPv6 & routing protocols like OSPF, ISIS, BGP along VPN technologies like
Layer 2 VPNs, MPLS VPNs, VPLS, etc.
Shall obtain/maintain technical/professional certifications applicable to position or as directed
Should participate in escalation process in the event of technical problems & guidance to operations
& ensure seamless delivery of services across GCX Infrastructure, Partner NNI’s & other BU’s as
necessary.
Obtain yearly certifications and renewals per management assignment

Candidate Specification:
Extensive hands-on-experience in service provider environment in planning & designing of network
infrastructure providing Managed WAN/Security/Voice/Video & Internet Services. Should pursue excellent
documentation and presentation skills.
Candidate should be self motivated, result driven with rich blend of technical skills and should show maturity
to lead from the front and should thrive towards goals/ results in any situation/condition.
Technical/Functional Skills: ( Use “E” to denote Essential and “D” for Desirable)
Extensive experience in service provider environment network specifically in planning, designing &
implementation of Data, Voice, Video & cloud computing services.
Advanced skills on Juniper, Cisco, Extreme carrier platforms, CPEs, Firewalls and 'network appliances' from
leading vendors.
Extensive knowledge and experience in implementation and troubleshooting of RFC2547 and IPSec VPNs,
VPLS - Kompella/Martini/EoMPLS Layer-2 VPNs, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP, RSVP, IPv4, IPv6, BGP/OSPF/IP Routing,
Option-A/B/C NNI, network security, in-service router and OS upgrades, traffic engineering, and
optimization.
Working experience with provisioning templates, scripting, detailed designs, MOP, planned works, and
technical project management
Good knowledge about SONET/SDH, Ethernet variants, ATM/FR and other transport technologies. Good
knowledge about 3G/Wireless access technologies and wireless VPNs, global wireless data roaming solutions
etc
Knowledge about customized solutions, value added services including Security, WAN optimization/AAN,
Cloud computing, and VoIP infrastructure, PoC to production.
Good knowledge of relevant standards, routing and switching equipment, tools, industry trends, and
enterprise managed VPN, WAN optimization, Security, Cloud Computing, and managed voice and video
services. The candidate shall have good research skills, an out-of-box thinker, and envision services of the
future over various network platforms.
