DESIGN OF ROOF SLAB

Assuming overall depth of slab as D= 0.25 m


Using 10 mm R.T.S rod with clear cover of 25 mm

Effective depth=D - cover - 0.5xrod dia. =d = 0.22 m


= 0.25 - 0.025 - 0.5 * 0.01 = 0.22
Effective span = dia + eff.depth = 1.075 m
=MIN ( 0.9 + 0.22 , 0.9 + 0.175 ) = 1.075
or c / c of span whichever is less

R=eff.span = 1.075 / 2 = 0.538 m

As per " Theory of plates and shells" by Timoshenko and Woinowsky- Krieger,
the B.M values for simply supported slab with central load W :-

Radial BM = (W / 4 p ) [ ln {R/a} - (1/4) {1 - (a2 / R2)}]


Circumferential BM = (W / 4 p ) [ ln {R/a} + (1/4) {3 - (a2 / R2)}]
W = 62.5 ; R= 0.625 ; a = 0.15 R= (0.9+2*0.175)/2 =0.625
Substituting the above values in the BM eqns,
Radial BM due to wheel load = 5.93 KNm
Circumferencial BM due to wheel load = 10.76 KNm

Radial moment at centre= 3WR2 3 * 7.75 * 0.538^2 / 16 = 0.42 KNm
