Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
Volleyball Rules
 Only 6 players on the floor at any given time: 3 in the front row and 3 in the back
row.
 Points are made on every serve for the winning team of the rally (rally-point
scoring).
 Players may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit).
 Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
 A ball hitting a boundary line is in.
 A ball is out if it hits an antennae, the floor completely outside the court, any of the
net or cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, or the ceiling above a
non-playable area.
 It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
 It is illegal to catch, hold or throw the ball.
 A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot line.
 After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.
 Matches are made up of sets; the number depends on level of play.
Volleyball Rule Violations
 Committing any of these volleyball rule violations results in a point for the
opponent.
 Stepping on or across the service line when serving while making contact with the
ball.
 Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully.
 Ball-handling errors and contacting the ball illegally (double touching, lifting,
carrying, throwing, etc.)
 Touching the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.
 Blocking a ball coming from the opponent’s court and contacting the ball when
reaching over the net if your opponent has not used 3 contacts AND has a player
there to make a play on the ball.
 Attacking a ball coming from the opponent’s court and contacting the ball when
reaching over the net when the ball has not yet broken the vertical plane of the net.
 Crossing the court centerline with any part of your body, with the exception of a
hand or foot. It is only considered a violation if the entire hand or entire foot crosses
the court centerline.
 Serving out of rotation or out of order.
 Back row player blocking (deflecting a ball coming from the opponent) when, at the
moment of contact, the back row player is near the net and has part of their body
above the top of the net. This is an illegal block.
 Back row player attacking a ball inside the front zone (the area inside the 3M/10-
foot line) when, at the moment of contact, the ball is completely above the net. This
is an illegal attack.
Game Format and Schedule:
B. TUG OF WAR
Number of Players: Ten (10) players per team. There shall be 5 boys and 5 girls.
Total Number of Students Involved: The overall total number of players is 80.
Venue: CCSIS Quadrangle
Date and Time: November 17, 2023, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Tournament Manager: Ma’am Karol Abraham
Co-facilitator: Ma’am Joy Lara

Rope 2 /
Handkerchief 4 /
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 An equal number of players pick up each end of the rope.
 Combined weight classes start at:
 Grade 7 and 8: 400 kg for boys, 360 kg for girls
 Grade 9 and 10: 500 kg for boys, 460 kg for girls
 Senior High School: 560 kg for boys and 520 kg for girls.
 The game involves usage of a single rope. There is a red mark made in the middle
of the rope. This red mark on the rope needs to be at a perpendicular angle to the
exact center point on the ground, before the commencement of the game. A white
mark is made exactly 13 feet from the red mark on either side of the rope. The
game is won when either side with this white mark crosses the center point.
 A line referred to as a center line is marked on the playing zone and the rope is
placed in a manner that its center mark should align the center marked on the
ground. On either side of the rope at the distance of 4 m from the center line, 2
more marks need to be made. This is the point where the first member of each
team will stand.
 There is a particular technique that needs to be applied while playing this game, if
not then there will be a foul which can call in for disqualifications. For e.g. lowering
your elbow below the knee level while pulling the rope is considered to be a foul and
is called ‘locking’. Touching the ground for a longer period of time is also considered
as a foul.
Game Format and Schedule:
C. DRAGON’S TAIL
Number of Players: Fifteen (15) players per team.
Total Number of Students Involved: The overall total number of players is 120.
Venue: CCSIS Quadrangle

Materials needed:
Material/ Equipment Quantity Status
Handkerchief 2 /
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 Everyone should split into teams of five people.
 Everyone should check that it’s OK to touch the person in front of them. If it is, they
should put their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them, or hold on to
the bottom of their top.
 The player at the front of each dragon is the head, and the player at the back is the
tail. Everyone else is the body.
 Everyone should check there’s enough space between themselves and the person
in front of them—everyone’s arms should be straight. The person leading the game
should remind everyone not to grip too tightly to the person in front of them, and
should tell everyone that they must not run or pull on anyone.
 The person leading the game should start playing some traditional Chinese music.
 The person leading the game should say ‘go’. The head of each dragon should try to
touch the tail. The players in the body should try to stop it happening, without
letting go of the person in front of them.
 When the head catches the tail, the dragon should stand still. The head should go to
the back of the line to become the tail. The person who was second in line is now
the head.
 Keep playing until everyone in each dragon has had a turn at being the head and
the tail.

Tournament Manager: Sir Aries Magnaye
Co-facilitator: Ma’am Mylene Fernandez
Materials needed:
Material/ Equipment Quantity Status
Chess Board 8 TBD.
Chess Clock (Digital) 8 TBD.
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 The goal in chess is delivering a checkmate – trapping your opponent’s king.
 Point values are given to each piece as it is captured.
 Pawn (1 pt), Knight (3 pts), Bishop (3 pts), Rook (5 pts), Queen (9 pts)
 White moves first and players take turns alternately moving one piece at a time;
movement is required. If it is a player’s turn to move, is not in check, and has no
legal moves, it is a “Stalemate”, and the game will end. Points will determine the
winner.
 Each type of piece has its method of movement. A piece may be moved to another
empty position or may capture an opponent's piece, replacing it with its square.
 Check: (a) When the king of a player can be captured by a piece of the opponent,
one says that the king is in check. It is considered good manners to say check when
one checks one's opponent. (b) It is not allowed to make a move, such that one king
is in check after the move. If a player accidentally tries to make such a move, he
must take the move back and make another move (following touch move rules). (c)
Note that there are three different possible ways to remove a check: ▪ Move the
king away to a square where he is not in check. ▪ Take the piece that gives the
check. (In case of a check, given by a rook, bishop, or queen) ▪ Move a piece
between the checking piece and the king.
 Checkmate: When a player is in check, and he cannot make a move that removes
his king from the check, then he is mated. The player who is mated loses the match,
and the player who mated him wins the match.
 Stalemate: When a player cannot make any legal move, but he is not in check, then
the player is said to be stalemated. In the case of a stalemate, the winner will be
determined by the points of captured pieces.
 Touch Move: (a) Chess being a mental game, it is expected that players will
consider their moves in advance. On a player's move, if they touch their piece, they
are required to move that piece, unless it has no legal moves. If they touch an
opponent's piece, they are required to take that piece if they may legally do so. A
move is not final, however, until the player lets go of the piece. (b) As some of our
IM players may be newer to the game and trying to learn/improve we hope
opponents with more experience will be lenient when it comes to such intricacies
and help explain some of the finer details.
 Winning the Game: (a)The match is over when a king on either side is captured; (b)
If time expires, the player with the most points from captured pieces wins. In the
event of a tie-in point, the next player to capture an opponent’s piece will be the
winner. (c) In the event of a Stalemate, the player with the most points from
captured pieces will be the winner. (d) If there is a tie in points, the player with the
most pieces still on the board will be the winner.
Game Format and Schedule:
E. DAMA
Number of Players: Two representatives per team in each time frame/ batch. Total of four
representatives per team (boys and girls).
Total Number of Students Involved: The overall total number of players is 32.
Venue: CCSIS JHS Building Classrooms (103 & 203)
Date and Time: November 17, 2023, 8:30 AM to 10:10 AM; 1:30 PM to 3:10 PM

Chess Board 8 TBD.
Chess Clock (Digital) 8 TBD.
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
Play
 Players move alternately, starting with the player with the light checkers.
 Ordinary checkers can move one square forward or sideways.
 When an ordinary checker ends its move on the last row of the board it is promoted
to a king.
 Kings can move any number of squares horizonally or vertically (exactly like a rook
in Chess). Kings cannot jump over their own pieces or over two or more enemy
pieces standing one after another.
 Neither ordinary checkers nor kings can land on an occupied square.
Captures
 An ordinary checker can capture an enemy piece standing on an adjacent square to
the left, to the right or in front of it if the next square in the same direction is
empty. The capture is made by jumping over this enemy piece and placing the
player's own checker on the next empty square. The captured enemy piece
is immediately removed from the board. If the same player's checker can continue
capturing another enemy piece then it must do so.
 A king can capture an enemy piece standing on the same horizontal or vertical line
if there are no other pieces between them and the next square or squares in the
same direction are empty too. The capture is made by jumping over this enemy
piece and placing the king on any of the following empty squares. If the same
player's king can continue capturing another enemy piece then it must do so.
 In either case, captured pieces are immediately removed from the board, that
is, before the capture is continued. Thus squares may become vacant that allow
the capture, in the same turn, of pieces that previously could not be captured.
 Capturing is mandatory. This means that if a player can capture an enemy piece (or
pieces) on his turn then he must do so.
 If a player has a choice of jump sequences then he must choose the sequence that
captures the most enemy pieces.
Game Format and Schedule:

Scrabble Board 8 TBD.
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 A team will be composed of 4 players
 Event categories: Boys and Girls
 Single Elimination Format
 All games will be played in the designated classroom assigned by the organizers.
 All scrabble boards, tiles, racks, timers, paper, pencils, and dictionaries will be
provided by the organizers and players if they have their ones.
 Matches will be held with a one (1) hour limit on completion.
 The goal is to score more points than your opponent by creating words on the game
board.
 Point values are given:
Value Letters
 0 point Blank Tile
 1 point A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T and U
 2 points D and G
 3 points B, C, M, and P
 4 points F, H, V, W and Y
 5 points K
 8 points J and X
 10 points Q and Z
 2x L (Double Letter Scores) in Light Blue Cells
 3x L (Triple Letter Scores Dark) in Blue Cells
 2x W (Double Word Score) in Light Red Cells
 3x W (Triple Word Score) in Dark Red Cells
 Game Setup: Each player draws one tile from the bag; the player with the letter
closest to "A" goes first. Players draw seven tiles each to start.
 The Board: The standard Scrabble board is a 15x15 grid. Premium squares include
double letter, triple letter, double word, and triple word.
 Creating Words: Words must be formed left to right or top to bottom. They must
connect to an existing word on the board. All letters in a word must be part of the
same horizontal or vertical line.
 Using Tiles: Use all seven tiles in a single turn for a 50-point bonus (a "bingo"). Use
tiles to create words, and you can build off existing words on the board. You can
only play valid words from an official Scrabble dictionary.
 Scoring: The score for a word is determined by the sum of the letter values plus any
premium squares. Premium squares are only used on the turn in which they are first
covered.
 Challenges: Players can challenge the validity of a word. If the challenged word is
valid, the challenger loses their next turn. If the word is invalid, it is removed, and
the challenger continues their turn.
 Ending Your Turn: After playing your tiles, draw new ones to replenish your rack.
The game continues in turns until all tiles are used or no more valid plays can be
made.
 Ending the Game: The game ends when a player uses all their tiles and there are no
more tiles left in the bag, or when no more valid plays can be made.
 Scoring Penalties: If a player makes an invalid play, they must return the played
tiles to their rack and lose their turn.
 Tile Exchange: Once per turn, a player can choose to exchange one or more tiles for
an equal number from the bag.
 Blank Tiles: Blank tiles can be used to represent any letter. When played, the player
must declare which letter it represents.
Game Format and Schedule:
G. WORD FACTORY
Number of Players: Eight representatives per team in each time frame/ batch. Total of
sixteen representatives per team (boys and girls). Each player shall have a substitute.
Total Number of Students Involved: The overall total number of players is 128.

Word Factory Set 8 TBD.
Timer 8 TBD.
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 A team will be composed of 4 players and 4 substitute
 Event categories: Boys and Girls
 Single Elimination Format
 All games will be played in the designated classroom assigned by the organizers.
 All boards, dice, envelopes, paper, timer, pencil, and dictionary will be provided by
the organizers and players if they have theirs.
 Matches will be held with a one (1) hour limit on completion.
 The goal of Word Factory is to create words using a set of letter tiles.
 Setup: Depending on the version, you may have a certain number of letter tiles.
These tiles could have individual letters or letter combinations.
 Turns: Players take turns creating words using their letter tiles. The words can be of
any length as long as they are valid words.
 Scoring: Assign a point value to each letter, and score each word accordingly. You
can also have bonus points for longer words or using certain letters.
 Validation: Use a dictionary or a predetermined word list to validate words. If a
player creates an invalid word, they might lose their turn or face a penalty.
 Time Limits: Set a time limit for each turn to keep the game moving. This adds an
element of urgency and prevents players from overthinking.
 Expanding Words: Allow players to expand on existing words on the board, similar
to Scrabble. This adds a strategic element to the game.
 Challenges: If a player challenges the validity of a word, consult a dictionary. If the
word is valid, the challenger might face a penalty. If the word is invalid, the player
who played the word faces consequences.
 Winning: The game can be played for a set number of rounds or until a certain score
is reached. The player with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.
 House Rules: Depending on the group, you might have additional house rules. For
example, you could have special tiles that act as wildcards or grant bonus points.
Game Format and Schedule:

GOG Board 8 TBD.
Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 All games will be played in the designated classroom assigned by the organizers.
 The organizers will provide all Scrabble boards, pieces, timers, paper and pencils,
and players if they have their ones.
 Matches will be held with a one (1) hour limit on completion.
 The goal of the game is to capture the opponent's Flag or to maneuver your Flag to
the opponent's headquarters.
 Ranking of the different pieces in the game are as follows (highest rank first):
Pieces No. of pieces
 Five Star General (General of the army) 1
 Four Star General (General) 1
 Three Star General (Lieutenant general) 1
 Two Star General (Major general) 1
 One Star General (Brigadier General) 1
 Colonel (Three Magdalo 7-Ray Suns) 1
 Lt. Colonel (Two Magdalo 7-Ray Suns) 1
 Major (One Magdalo 7-Ray Sun) 1
 Captain (Three Magdalo Triangles) 1
 1st Lieutenant (Two Magdalo Triangles) 1
 2nd Lieutenant (One Magdalo Triangle) 1
 Sergeant (Three Chevrons) 1
 Private (One Chevron) 6
 Spy (Two Prying Eyes) 2
 Flag (Philippine Flag) 1
 Setup: The game is played on an 8x8 grid. Each player has an army consisting of
different pieces representing military ranks, from 1 (Private) to 10 (General). The
pieces are placed face down on the player's back two rows. The arrangement is
secret to the opponent.
 Movement: Pieces move horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally. The higher-
ranked piece defeats a lower-ranked piece, except for the Spy (1), which defeats
the 10 (General). The 10 defeats all lower-ranked pieces.
 Challenge and Reveal: If a piece moves onto a square occupied by an opponent's
piece, a challenge occurs. Both players reveal their pieces, and the higher-ranked
piece wins. The lower-ranked piece is removed from the board. If the ranks are the
same, both pieces are removed.
 Special Pieces: Flag (F): The Flag cannot move or attack. If an opponent's piece
reaches the Flag, the game is lost. Spy (S): The Spy defeats the 10 (General) but is
defeated by all other pieces.
 Recognition and Promotion: When a piece reaches the opponent's back row, it is
recognized and can be promoted in the next move to any higher rank, except the
Flag.
 Repetition Rule: If the same position is repeated three times with the same player to
move, the game is declared a draw.
 Winning: The game is won by capturing the opponent's Flag or by moving your Flag
to the opponent's headquarters.

Rules and Regulations/ Mechanics:
 All games will be 10 minutes long.
 One Point will be scored for each basket shot from within the 3-point arc; shots from
behind the 3-point arc counting as two points.
