INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATE
1. Be punctual to the Lab class.

2. Attend the laboratory classes wearing the prescribed uniform and shoes.

3. Avoid wearing any metallic rings, straps or bangles as they are likely to

prove dangerous at times.

4. Before entering in to the lab class, you must be well prepared for the

experiment that you are going to do on that day.

5. You must bring the related text book which may deal with relevant
experiment.
6. Get the circuit diagram approved.

7. Prepare the list of equipment’s and components required for the experiment
and get the indent approved.
8. Make connections as per the approved circuit diagram and get the same
verified. After getting the approval only supply must be switched on.
9. Students are allowed in the laboratory only when the lab instructor is present.

10. You must get the observation note corrected with in the days from the date of

completion of experiment. With the answer for all the discussion equations in the

observation note. If not, makes for concerned observation will be proportionately

reduced.

11. Submit the record note book for the experiment completed in the next class.

12. If you miss any practical class due to unavoidable reasons, intimate the staff in
charge and do the missed experiment in the repetition class.
I have read and understand these rules and procedures. I agree to abide by these
rules and procedures at all times while using these facilities. I understand that failure to
follow these rules and procedures will result in my immediate dismissal from the
laboratory and additional disciplinary action may be taken.

SAFETY:

You are doing experiments in Power Electronics lab with high voltage and
high current electric power. It may cause even a fatal or loss of energy of your
body system. To avoid this please keep in mind the followings
1. In case of any wrong observations, you have to SWITCH OFF the power
supply related with it.
2. You have to wear shoes compulsorily and stand on mats made by insulating
materials to electrically isolate your body from the earth.
3. Acquire a good knowledge of the surrounding of your worktable know where the
various live points are situated in your table.
4. In case of any unwanted things happening immediately switch off the mains in
the work table.
5. Report any broken equipment or defective parts to the lab instructor. Do not open,
remove the cover, or attempt to repair any equipment.
6. Anyone violating any rules or regulations may be denies access to these facilities.
FIRE:
Transistors and other components can become extremely hot and cause severe
burns if touched. If resistors or other components on your proto-board catch fire, turn
off the power supply and notify the instructor. If electronic instruments catch fire,
press the Emergency Disconnect (red button). These small electrical fires extinguish
quickly after the power is shut off. Avoid using fire extinguishers on electronic
instruments.
EXPLOSION:

When using electrolytic capacitors, be careful to observe proper polarity and

do not exceed the voltage rating. Electrolytic capacitors can explode and cause injury.
A first aid kit is located on the wall near the door.
MAY I HELP YOU

1. Device ratings should be noted.

2. Moving coil meters should be used for DC measurements.
3. Moving iron meters should be used for AC measurements.
4. Use isolated supply for the CRO.
5. Use attenuation probe for high voltage measurements in DSO.
