Identify the two Keys from the Major Arcana that correspond with your date of birth. The
first will be in accordance with your sun sign (often referred to colloquially as your
horoscope sign) and the second will be in accordance with your planetary ruler.

Major and Minor Arcana Birthday Correspondences
Note: Planetary ruler correspondences vary depending on whether you’re working with a
traditional or modern approach. Within the traditional approaches, there is also the
distinction between a single rulership and a day-night two ruler system. Here, I’m
providing the single rulership traditional approach and the modern approach. Regrettably,
the day-night two ruler system is not accounted for in this reference table.

Major and Minor Arcana Birthday Correspondences
If your birthday falls on a cusp, then the decan ruler correspondence noted below could be
wrong. You’ll want to check your sun sign degree to be exact.
For example, if you were born on March 31 but your sun sign degree is 10°, then even
though the below chart says your decan ruler is sun in Aries, with your tarot card being the
Three of Wands based on your date of birth, your decan ruler should actually be Mars in
Aries, with your tarot card being the Two of Wands, based on your sun sign degree.
Another example, if you were born on April 11, it looks like your tarot card should be the
Four of Wands, but if your sun sign degree is 20° (and not 21°), then your tarot card should
really be the Three of Wands.
In other words, your tarot card should be based on your sun’s degree, not the date. However, if
you don’t know your sun’s degree, then you can reasonably work with your birthday. It’s just
that those with birthdays on the cusp will need to be a little more careful. When the cusp baby is
in doubt and you don’t know how to ascertain your sun sign’s degree, then work with both tarot
cards around your cusp. For example, if you were born on March 31 and you aren’t sure of your
sun sign’s degree, then work with the Three of Wands and also the Two of Wands.

To mark the threshold between youth and adulthood, I’m working with the approximate
age of the First Saturn Return, which is age 29. Gender notations are open to interpretation.

The easiest approach here is to select the Ace corresponding with the element of your sun
sign. E.g., you’re an Aries, which is a Fire sign, so you would select the Ace of Wands to
work with, or you’re a Virgo, so you would select the Ace of Disks.
Alternatively (and preferably), select the Ace corresponding with your birth chart’s
elemental dominance. E.g., if your birth chart is Air-dominant, then you would select the
Ace of Swords to work with.
To offer a short explanation for how astrologers might determine your birth chart
dominance, the elemental dignity of all key planets and sensitive points in your chart are
assessed and the strength of each of the four elements in your chart is tallied.
If your birth chart has twin dominance where two elements share equal strength in your
chart, e.g., a chart is equally Fire and Air dominant, then for the Ace selection exercise in
this episode, go with the Ace that corresponds with the element of your sun sign. E.g.,
despite being Fire and Air dominant, you are a sun sign Scorpio, so for this exercise you
would work with the Ace of Cups, because Scorpio is a Water sign.
