NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP

REFLECTION
July 1, 2024

My journey in the National Learning Camp (NLC), as one of the current imposing programs of the Department of
Education under the MATATAG Agenda, started with anticipation. As a Learning Camp Volunteer (LCV), I was indeed
excited to embark this firsthand duty and assist the learners to gain knowledge throughout this camp-like experience.

My primary move was to familiarize myself first with the basic guidelines for the implementation of this program.
Consequently, the conduct of the orientation for the LCVs was really beneficial and informative as it refreshed my
involvement from the previous year and it made me realize what I have to do for this three-week camp just to allow the
students to have a learning-packed exposure.

Since this program aimed to complement learning efforts in the previous year and provide a firmer basis for further
gains in the upcoming school year, the first-ever Collaborative Expertise Session through Learning Action Cell had really set
the mood how to navigate smoothly for this NLC.

This onset might entail a lot of things to uncover along the way but I deem that this is going to be an interesting
endeavor for this institution, for my professional development, and for the students’ learning growth.

After a week of implementing NLC program, there were already several points to ponder. As a facilitator of
learning in just three days, learning experiences and students’ receptions to these were observed so well. Thus, it was an
LCV’s prerogative to take actions relevant to their learning enhancement.

The first week of the camp has been a steep learning curve, full of fresh experiences, eye-opening revelations, and
opportunities for enhancement. Although it was exhausting and challenging, the satisfaction from this enlightening
experience was far greater. I have come to realize also that, as an LCV, my responsibility went beyond just imparting
knowledge, it also involved making an atmosphere in which students can improve not only academically, but also personally
and emotionally. Thus, undeniable, this NLC talked about holistic changes.

I looked forward to the coming weeks as we keep up on the lessons we have built and refine the strategies for the
benefit of the students. There was really a lot of things to anticipate to which might cause changes, especially in the
pedagogy.

REFLECTION

The first week of NLC program allowed us to gather diversified experiences. Issues and concerns were spotted to
which, of course, must be resolved in this second week of implementation. Even simple interventions were acted upon.

As observed in the opening week, there was a noticeable decline of attendance, pushed by different excuses. From
Grade 7 to Grade 10, the interest of the students in attending this program just deteriorated. However, no matter what, the

classes must still go on, especially for those whose attentiveness soared. As an LCV facing different types of learners, such
as the Consolidation and Enhancement Camps, there was a need for me to contextualized learning materials to cater their
needs including the fun-filled activities. This was also voiced out and emphasized through teachers’ collaboration.

Subsequently, realization dawned upon me that students nowadays tend to be inclined with extrinsic motivation.
There was indeed a recognizable fact that students had predispositions to be more involved if rewards were laid. This had
been a reality, even present in this NLC, that should not be ignored and should be catered with wide-ranging solutions.

NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP

REFLECTION
July 12, 2024

After two week’s implementation of the National Learning Camp, various circumstances were encountered,
unexpectedly or not. Whether positive or negative, issues were faced and simultaneously addressed, best practices were
observed, and interventions were gradually provided.

Facing these varied matters, it was undeniable that NLC was not a smooth-sailing journey. The Learning Camp
Volunteers’ undertaking must come out how to get hold of these challenges and find plausible solutions to such situations.
Recognizing the critical role of teachers in improving learning outcomes, the NLC two-fold purpose: improving learning
performance and strengthening teacher capacity was actually well-realized and well-served.

Even in sharing ideas and collectively strategizing for the week’s series of fun-filled activities during the camp
assembly were wisely conferred, too, through LAC which became a major platform to echo our observations and outlooks.
These approaches had been essential to accommodate the concerns and to possibly diminish such issues for the next round of
the conduct of NLC.

Identifying the key challenges and potential obstacles are somehow key to success. As it is said, “challenges are
what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes them meaningful”.

NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP

REFLECTION

Fun is just another word of learning. These two words could be inseparable. And so, the integration of fun-filled
learning was pertinent in this NLC program.

For this week, fun-filled activities for each subject area, namely: English, Mathematics and Science, were
intensified. Beyond the classroom, these activities injected a sense of camaraderie and energy into the camp. Thus, they
stood as welcome reminder that learning did not have to be confined to traditional approaches; it also took place in an
ambience of joy and shared experiences.

Furthermore, teaching was not a solitary endeavor, but a collaborative and continuous learning process. The
connections forged with my co-LCVs laid the foundations for future collaborations as we navigate the challenges of
education together.

Ending this week to be fun and productive was somehow achieved. Assessing the students’ achievement at the end
of the week is the best way to tell if a particular student had progress. It was also substantial if there was a need to modify
the teacher’s learning style which was indeed vital during the collaboration.

NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP

REFLECTION
July 19, 2024

Participating in this year’s National Learning Camp has been a remarkable journey filled with educational
experiences, interesting class discussions, interactive activities, and dynamic collaborations among the Learning Camp
Volunteers. I pondered that this program did not only widen my educational perceptions but also produce irrevocable
remembrances that I will revere as a public school teacher.

The Collaborative Expertise Sessions through LAC with the seasoned teachers were a high spot for me. I found
myself encouraged by the extent of knowledge that encircled me. Working closely with educators who indeed have passion
in what they are doing allowed me to boost my strengths and curtail my weaknesses. Moreover, these sessions became an
avenue for us to gather our shared outlooks with regards to educating our leaners in a constructive perspective.

In this culminating day of NLC implementation, I realized that this strategic initiative placed utmost importance on
fostering learners’ well-being and engagement, promoting sound and life-long education, and cultivating a positive learning
environment where teachers excelled and learners flourished.
