CULTURAL Rules & Regulations

LIST OF EVENTS [SENIORS(VIII - XII)]

CATEGORIES: SENIORS-8 & 9 AND SUPER SENIORS- 10 TO 12

On stage Events :

1. GROUP DANCE
Theme: Indian Retro
 Group Size: One group including Seniors and Super Seniors (12-15
participants)
 Evolution of Indian cinema through the 80s, 90s and 2000s
 Language and Lyrics: Clean and age appropriate
 Performance duration: Performance should not exceed 5-6 mins.
 Total duration should be max 6 minutes including entry and exit of the
group on stage.
 Costumes need to be age appropriate.
 Negative marking will be there for exceeding the time limit.
 Groups need to submit their track through google drive before 1st July
2024.
 Use of props in the performance is mandatory.
 Judging Criteria: Costume with grooming, Choreography,
Synchronization, Expression, Formations, Props and overall presentation.

2. MIMICRY (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Any movie character in any language.


 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors).
 Time limit: 2-3 mins.
 Props are allowed.
 Interaction with the audience is not allowed.
 Points will be deducted from the total score if the performance time
exceeds the allotted time.
 Audio clips are not allowed.
Judging Criteria: Costumes, Voice fluency, Stage presentation,
Characterization, Expressions
3. DUET DANCE (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: CLASSICAL
 Participants - Each house-4 (2 from seniors and 2 from super seniors).
 Jugalbandi of any two classical dance forms of India.
 Language and Lyrics: Clean and age appropriate
 Performance duration: Music should not exceed 2-3 mins.
 Total duration should be max 3 minutes including entry and exit of the
participant on stage.
 Costumes need to be age appropriate.
 Negative marking will be there for exceeding the time limit.
 Participants need to submit their track through google drive before 1st
July 2024.
 Participants can make use of props in the performance.
 Judging Criteria: Choreography, Execution, Expression and overall
presentation.

4. INSTRUMENTAL (Sr.)

 Number of participants: 6 from each house.


 Categories: Percussion, Strings, Keyboard (1 in each category from
seniors and 1 from super seniors)
 Time limit: 3 to 4 minutes.
 Guitar, Keyboard will be provided on prior request by the group and
Drums will be provided by the school to the participants. Participants can
carry their own instruments if needed.
 Attachment of any additional electronic device with the original
instrument is not allowed.
 Points will be deducted from the total score if the performance time
exceeds the allotted time.
 Use of a backing track is allowed.
 Track should be shared with the organizing committee via the google
drive link before 1st July 2024.
 Judging criteria: will be based on difficulty level, command of the
instrument, musical emotion, interpretation, and stage presence.
5. STANDUP COMEDY (Sr. & SSr.)
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors).
 Time limit: 2 to 4 minutes
 Language: English
 No obscene language or vulgarity is allowed; it will lead to
disqualification.
 Props are allowed.
 Interaction with the audience is not allowed.
 Mimicry of any teacher or student is not allowed; it will lead to
disqualification.
 Judging criteria: Spontaneity, content, presentation, relevance, delivery,
and sense of humour.

6. ADZAP

 Number of participants: Maximum: 12, minimum: 8.


 Time limit:5 -7 minutes (including stage setting, entry and exit)
 Narration, introduction, and use of audio track is allowed but the
respective houses must bring their pen drive and provide it to the
organizing committee before 1st July 2024.
 No extra time will be given for the setup
 No copyrights of any ads
 Points will be deducted from the total score if the performance time
exceeds the allotted time.
 Judging Criteria: Clarity in thought, Humor. Team coordination,
Attentiveness and Expression.

7. INSTRUMENTAL (SSr.)

(SAME AS ABOVE- POINT 4)


8. QUIZ
TOPICS: Cultural, Sports, Science and technology and Current affairs

 One entry per house.


 A team shall consist of four persons (2 from seniors and 2 from super seniors).
 The participants shall not be allowed to use mobile or other electronic
instruments.
 Replacement of any participant of a team is not allowed after registration.
 The quiz will have 4 rounds.
 Answering time is only 30 seconds.
 Team discussion is allowed.
 5 Marks will be awarded for the pass question.

 Round 1: General Round


o A question will be asked to a team and if they are unable to answer it
will be passed to the next team.
o Each team would be asked 4 questions each. (Objective questions
with options)
o 10 marks for correct answer and 5 negative marks for wrong
answer.
o If a team cannot answer the question, they can pass the question &
then the question would be forwarded to the next team.
 Round 2: Rapid Fire Round
o Each team will be asked 10 questions one after another in one minute’s
time.
o 10 marks for the correct answer.
o If a team cannot answer the question, they can say pass for the next
question.
 Round 3: Audio-Visual Round
o Audio or Visual clips will be shown to a team only twice.
o A question will be asked to a team and if they are unable to answer it
will be passed to the next team.
o Each team would be asked 4 questions each (2 Audio and 2 Visual).
o 10 marks for correct answer. If a team cannot answer the question,
they can pass the question & then the question would be
forwarded to the next team.
 Round 4: Buzzer Round
o Buzzer Round- A question will be fired & the team who presses the
buzzer first gets to answer first – 6 Questions.
o 10 marks for the correct answer and negative 5 marks for the wrong or if
the team doesn’t answer after they press Buzzers. The question will be
passed to the team who pressed the buzzer second.
o Answering time is only 30 seconds.
9. MONOLOGUE (Sr. & SSr.)\
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Participants must prepare and perform a 1-minute monologue of a
villain character from any play in English.
 A brief introduction of the character and context can be provided by the
participant before beginning of the monologue.
 The costume of the actor must match their role. Costumes need to be age
appropriate.
 Use of props is allowed.
 No use of derogatory language; it will lead to disqualification.
 Judging criteria: Acting, voice modulation, expression, body language,
costume.
10.SOLO DANCE (Sr. & SSr.)
Theme: Hip Hop (Western music only)
 Participants - Each house 2 from seniors and 2 from super seniors.
 Language and Lyrics: Clean and age appropriate
 Performance duration: Music should not exceed 2-3 mins.
 Total duration should be max 3 minutes including entry and exit of the
participant on stage.
 Costumes need to be age appropriate.
 Negative marking will be there for exceeding the time limit.
 Participants need to submit their track through google drive before 1st
July 2024.
 Participants can make use of props in the performance.
 Judging Criteria: Choreography, Technique, Expression and overall
presentation.

11.GROUP SINGING
Theme: Western
 Group Size: One group including Seniors and Super Seniors
(15-20 participants- 10-12 Singers and 3-5 musicians)
 Participant Singers should not exceed more than 15 and musicians not
more than 5.
 Language and Lyrics: Clean and age appropriate
 Performance duration: Music should not exceed 4-5 mins.
 Total duration should be max 7 minutes including entry and exit of the
group on stage.
 Costumes need to be age appropriate.
 Negative marking will be there for exceeding the time limit.
 A group can make use of props in the performance.
 Judging Criteria: Stage Presence, Vocal Quality, Rhythmic
Interpretation, Synchronization
12.ONCE UPON A TIME IN HISTORY- ACTING

 Group Size: One group including Seniors and Super Seniors (10-12
participants)
 Language: Clean and age appropriate
 Performance duration: Music should not exceed 8-10 mins.
 Total duration should be max 10 minutes including entry and exit of the
group on stage.
 Costumes need to be age appropriate.
 Negative marking will be there for exceeding the time limit.
 The Act should be based on historical events.
 Use of props in the performance is mandatory.
 Judging Criteria: Plot of the story, Dialogue delivery, Expression, Props
and overall presentation.

13.MIME

 Number of participants: 8-12 (Including entry and exit)


 Time limit: 5 – 7 minutes.
 Topic for each House will be decided on the basis of a draw of lots
conducted in advance.
 Use of audio track is permitted; however, the track must be submitted to
the organizing committee before 1st July 2024.
 Points will be deducted from the total score if the performance time
exceeds the allotted time.
 Judging criteria: facial expressions, acting skills, presentation and the
overall effects.
Off Stage Events:

14.COOKING WITHOUT FIRE

 Number of participants: 6 from each house, (3 from seniors and 3 from


super seniors).
 Time limit: 1.5 hours
 Only vegetarian meals.
 Participants need to prepare a refreshing mocktail, an appetizer and a
dessert.
 Pre-cooking preparations like soaking, melting etc can be done prior.
 Participants must cut vegetables and fruits on site.
 Participants need to prepare and put a chart on their cooking station
including the catchy names of their dishes and ingredients used (during
the event).
 Use of Gloves is mandatory.
 Judging Criteria: Taste, Presentation, hygiene and Nutritive value.

15.POETRY WRITING (Sr. & SSr.)

 Number of participants: 2 from each house, (1 from seniors and 1 from


super seniors).
 Time limit: 30 minutes.
 Poem should not be more than 400-500 words
 Writing and Topic - On the spot
 Choice of 3-4 topics
 It must be in English.
 Judging criteria: Relevance to the theme, Creativity, style and
originality, language, harmony of words and presentation, clarity of
imagery.

16.CANVAS PAINTING (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Explore a world of masterful creation


 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit: 2 hours
 Canvas will be provided to the participants.
 Art supplies need to be carried by the participants.
 Judging Criteria: Neatness, composition, theme and material usage.
17.SOLO SINGING (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Folk
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors).
 Time limit: 2 to 3 minutes
 Any language.
 Use of karaoke, backing tracks are allowed, however there should be no
vocal or choral backing in the given track. Track should be shared with
the organizing committee via the google drive link before 1st July 2024.
 The lyrics of the songs should not contain any obscenities, failing which
it will lead to disqualification
 Points will be deducted from the total score if the performance time
exceeds the allotted time.
 Judging Criteria: The participants will be judged solely on their singing
performance along with song selection, voice quality, clarity, pitch,
rhythm and their appeal to the audience.

18.POEM RECITATION (English) (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Gratitude
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit :2 - 3 mins.
 Props are allowed.
 Judging criteria: Voice and Articulation, Accuracy, Physical presence,
Dramatic Appropriateness and Overall Performance.

19.POEM RECITATION (Hindi) (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Gratitude
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit :2 - 3 mins.
 Props are allowed.
 Judging criteria: Voice and Articulation, Accuracy, Physical presence,
Dramatic Appropriateness and Overall Performance.
20.POEM RECITATION (Kannada) (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Gratitude
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit :2 - 3 mins.
 Props are allowed.
 Judging criteria: Voice and Articulation, Accuracy, Physical presence,
Dramatic Appropriateness and Overall Performance.

21.STORY WRITING (Sr. & SSr.)

 Number of participants: 2 from each house, (1 from seniors and 1 from


super seniors).
 Prompts will be given on the spot.
 Time limit: 45 minutes.
 It must be in English.
 It must be a maximum of 500 words (not including the title). There is no
minimum number of words, but your story does not have to be this long.
Any script over 500 words will not be read by the judges.
 Give your story a unique title.
 Poems or other formats will not be considered.
 No use of derogatory language; it will lead to disqualification.
 Judging criteria: Creativity, Structure (plotting, point of view, cadence),
language, adherence to the topic.

22.DEBATE (Sr. & SSr.)


 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit: 2 to 4 minutes (Each round)
 Language: English
 No use of derogatory language; it will lead to disqualification.
 Topics will be given one day prior to the participation.
 Lots will be picked up for the topics.
 Two rounds will be conducted. Round one will be opening and round two
will be cross examination and closing.
 Judging criteria: Organization and prioritization, Expression and
delivery, Content and overall presentation.
23.MURAL ART (Sr. & SSr.)
Theme: Exploring the beauty of India
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit:1.5 hours
 A3 size sheets will be provided to the participants.
 Art supplies need to be carried by the participants.
 Judging Criteria: Neatness, composition, theme, material usage

24.VEGETABLE & FRUIT CARVING

Theme: Under the Sea


 Number of participants: 4 from each house, (2 from seniors and 2 from
super seniors).
 The time limit - 2 Hours and flat surface tables will be provided to the
participants for their use.
 All contestants are required to produce one sculpture that is made entirely
of vegetables.
 All pieces are to be made of entirely edible food. Supports of frames can
be made with the help of plastic, wood etc.
 Participants should carry their own tools.
 Participants should report 15 minutes prior to the start of the event.
 No pre preparation of vegetables or fruits before competition is allowed.
 Use of stencils is not allowed.
 Judging criteria: General Presentation, Artistic Ability and skill of the
Contestant, Effective use of the source, Equipment and techniques used.

25.RANGOLI MAKING

Theme: Traditional
 There will be only one round of competition.
 Maximum time to complete the Rangoli is 1 hour 30 minutes.
 Number of participants: 4 from each house, (2 from seniors and 2 from
super seniors) in a team.
 Artwork must be in a space measuring _______________.
 Rangoli should be done in Rangoli colours only.
 Use of flowers is not allowed.
 Judging criteria: creativity and originality, adherence to theme, skill and
technique and overall presentation.
26.POSTER MAKING (Sr. & SSr.)

 Number of participants: 4 from each house, (2 from seniors and 2 from


super seniors).
 Theme will be given one-day prior.
 Time duration: 1 hour
 A3 size sheets will be provided. The participants must carry their own art
supplies.
 Poster can be made using pencil, crayon, paint, etc. Photographs, wires,
other 3D objects, print-outs won’t be acceptable. It should be original and
hand made.
 Poster should not contain any personal details like Name, Class, House
etc., only the chest number can be mentioned.
 Judgement Criteria: Relevance to the theme, Originality, Artistic
composition, Creativity, Message conveyed by the poster, Effectiveness
in communicating the intended message

27.JAM- (Just A Minute) (Sr. & SSr.)

 Number of participants: 4 from each house (2 from seniors and 2 from


super seniors). Both, participating individually.
 Each participant will be given a topic on the spot with no preparation
time and the speaking time shall be 1 minute.
 Topics should be picked by the participants from a bowl of chits.
 Participants have to use only English words. Usage of words from any
other language or foul language would lead to negative marking.
 The buzzer will be pressed twice. Once when 45 seconds have passed and
second at the end of one minute, signalling the participants that their turn
is over.
 Judging Criteria: Spontaneity, method, content, fluency.
 Hesitation or deviation while speaking will also be judged.

Note: A momentary pause before resumption of the subject or


tripping over one's words will be marked by the judges as hesitation.
Deviation means deviating from the topic.
28.EXTEMPORE (Sr. & SSr.)
 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both participating individually.
 Time limit: 3 – 4 minutes
 Topics will be given 30 minutes in advance to all participants. The
warning bell will be rung 30 seconds prior to the completion of the
allotted time limit.
 Lots will be picked up for the topics.
 Judging criteria: Content, clear organization, Delivery, Pronunciation
and Stage Presence.

29.NEWS PAPER COLLAGE (Sr. & SSr.)


Theme: Still life
 Number of participants: 4 from each house, (2 from seniors and 2 from
super seniors).
 The collage should be original, creative, and relevant to the theme.
 It should also be neat, clear, and attractive.
 Maximum time to complete the collage is 1 hour 30 minutes.
 A3 sheets will be provided.
 Only tearing and creating is allowed. No direct sticking of pictures.
 Participants need to bring their own supplies.
 Judging criteria : Creativity and originality, adherence to theme, skill
and technique and overall presentation.
30. PHOTOGRAPHY (Sr. & SSr.)

 Number of participants: 2 from each house, (1 from seniors and 1 from super
seniors).
 Time: 45 Minutes (Includes clicking and Uploading of the pictures in the pen
drive)
 Theme will be given on the spot.
 Students need to carry their own cameras.
 The photographs should be relevant to the theme.
 5 best photographs for each participant should be submitted.
 Participants need to submit photographs to the assigned person immediately
after the 45 mins of the event.
 Pen Drive needs to be properly labelled with the chest number and submitted
within the allotted time. Delay in submission will lead to disqualification.
 The photographs that are submitted should be as captured within the campus
 No edits, no filters.
 Only cameras can be used. No Mobile phones are permitted.
 Judging criteria: Theme or topic being explored, exposure, sharpness, colour
and contrast, how well the photo conveys mood and emotion.
31.DECLAMATION (Sr. & SSr.)

Theme: Famous Personalities.


 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from
super seniors). Both. participating individually.
 Time limit: 2-3 mins.
 Speech has to be memorized.
 Costumes are mandatory.
Judging Criteria: Content, Costume with grooming, Clarity of voice, Fluency,
Diction and Enunciation, Stage Presence.

32.SPELLBEE

 Number of participants: 2 from each house (1 from seniors and 1 from


super seniors). Both. participating individually.
 Round 1: Multiple choice word meaning - A definition will be provided;
the participants need to select the correctly written word from the given
options.
For example:
Definition: The act of aggravation; irritation; keen or bitter anger.
a) exasperation b) exasparation
c) exesperation d) exisperation
 Round 2: Unscramble - A definition will be provided, along with the
word in scrambled letters. The participants need to unscramble the word
correctly.
For example:
Definition: A person who acts as the voice of a group of
people. PRNSOOEEPSSK S___________________N
 Round 3: The participant must spell the word correctly to gain a point.
 The words will be pronounced and used in a sentence by the judge, for
each participant.
 The participant with the most points at the end of all 3 rounds will be
declared the winner.
PLEASE NOTE: GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1.Selections will be conducted by housemistresses/masters to select students
representing their House for the respective events on Cultural week.

2. Final participant list and required sound tracks must be submitted by each
House on or before 1 July 2024 to the cultural committee.

3. Any student representing his/her House cannot participate in more than 4


events (only one group and 3 individual events qallowed per participant).
Individual Championship will be awarded to the student. 5 points will be
added to the House points.

4. No event can be delayed for the convenience of the participants.

5. There will be 5 points for each house for maintaining discipline during the
events.

6. Any act of indiscipline by participants calls for cancellation of registration.

7. All materials/costumes, etc. must be arranged by the participants.

8. Participants should report 10 minutes prior to the start of the event.

9. Decision of the judges will be final, any issues can be brought up to the
appeal committee by the house mistress and masters.

10. Proper labelling of chest numbers should be done.

11. No participant (On stage or Off stage) is permitted to wear their PE


Uniform or reveal their house name in any way.

12. No house teachers are permitted on stage with the participants.

13.All the setup on stage will be done by the participants with the help of
support staff, Music or Dance teachers and Cultural Committee.

14. Participants should change the costumes immediately after their


performance. Loitering in the Campus is not allowed. If any participant is
caught, house points will be deducted for the same.
