Speaking B1

HOMETOWN
1. Where is your hometown?
→ My hometown is Thai Binh which is located in the North part of Vietnam and
it is between Nam Dinh and Hai Phong.
2. Is it the city or the countryside?
→ My hometown is a beautiful countryside where I was born and grew up.
3. What’s it known for?
→ It’s famous for Nguyen village's Cay cake, rice production and some famous
places such as Keo pagoda, Tran temple and so on
4. What do people do there?
→ In here, most people are farmers. So they often work on the farm all day.
5. How is the atmosphere there?
→ The atmosphere here ís very fresh, peaceful and less polluted than in Hanoi
6. How are people there?
→ They are so friendly, kind, generous and very hardworking. I have also
inherited /ɪnˈher.ɪtid/ those good qualities from my mother and relatives here
7. Would you like to live in your hometown or somewhere else?
→ Although it's not easy to find a job that suits me, I love my hometown and just
wanna live here forever.
8. Is it easy to find a job there?
→ My hometown isn’t an easy place to find a job because there are very few
companies, factories, enterprises /ˈen.t̬ ɚ.praɪz/ - xí nghiệp here.
9. Is it a good environment for young people?
→ As I mentioned above it's not easy to find a good job here but if young people
like a peaceful, spacious and eco-friendly life, this is a great environment for
them.
10. Is traffic congestion a big problem in your hometown?
→ Traffic congestion has never happened here because the means of moving and
population are not as crowded as in the city

HOBBIES
1. What is your hobby?
→ I really enjoy listening to music and traveling, especially when I feel
pressured /ˈpreʃ.ɚ/ in studying and in life
2. Is your hobby common in your country?
→ Yes, of course. These hobbies are not only common in my country, but they
are also very popular in countries around the world.
3. Is your hobby the same as when you were a child?
→ No, it isn’t. Actually, when I was a child, I used to watch TV, play games and
read comic books
4. When did you start practicing that hobby?
→ Since I was in high school, I was pressured /ˈpreʃ.ɚ/ to study and take exams, I
turned to music and went somewhere. This is really wonderful, it helped me

→ Yes, there are. My family also loves listening to music and my sister always
goes on a trip with me every month.

→ I listen to music evẻryday and anywhere and I usually travel twice a month
with my friends or my sister.
7. What benefits do you get from it?
→ As I mentioned above, these hobbies help me relieve /rɪˈliːv/ stress and fatigue
/fəˈtiːɡ/ - mệt mỏi, make me happier and study more effectively. Moreover, I can
make many new friends while traveling.
8. Have you ever heard of someone having a very unusual hobby? What was it?
→ No, I haven’t. I think everyone has their own personality and interests, so

→ As I said above, since everyone has their own personality and
preferences /ˈpref.ər.əns/, that's completely normal.
10. What hobbies are usually expensive in your country?
→ I guess Photography is one of the most expensive hobbies I know in my
country.

FAMILY
1. How many people are there in your family?
→ There are 4 people in my family: my parents, sister and me.
2. Does your family live in a house or an apartment? → My family lives in a beautiful
small house in the countryside where I was born

3. What does your father do? → My father is a farmer. He usually works on the farm all
day with plants and
animals
4. How old is your mother? → My mother is 50 years old but with her long and silky
black hair she looks
much younger than her age.
5. Do you have any siblings? What’s his/her name?
→ Yes, I have a sister. She is Quynh Anh and she is 8 years older than me
6. Are you the oldest amongst your brothers and sisters?
→ No, I’m not. I am the youngest child in my family. The oldest child in my
family is my sister: Quynh Anh who is working as an accountant in a Logistics
company.
7. What do your mother and father like?
→ My mother likes cooking and my father loves watching football match. Both
my mom and dad like to travel.
8. Do your parents let you stay out late?
→ No, Of course not. They always ask me to be at home by 10 p.m. Because it
won’t be safe when outside at that time, especially for girls.
9. Do you stay with your parents?
→ No, I don’t. I used to but now I am studying at my university in Hanoi. I stay
with my friends.
10. Does your family usually have dinner together?
→ No, we are not very often. Because my sister and I are always away from
home. And on weekends, we come back home and have dinner together.

RESTAURANT
1. How often do you eat out? Who do you go with?
→ I rarely eat out. It’s about once every three months because I like cooking
myself. I usually go with my friends but sometimes with my family.
2. What restaurant do you usually visit?
→ I often go to Lao Ngu restaurant because it is near my house and the food there
is quite delicious and cheap
3. What type of food do you enjoy to eat? Western or Asian?
→ I don't have taste with western food. I like eating Asian food especially
Vietnam’s food.
4. How much do you usually pay when you eat out?
→ Because I often eat out with my friends, each meal is about 1 million, we will
share it. Each person will have to pay about 300 thousand VND
5. Do you enjoy spicy food?
→ Yes, I do. I really like spicy food but I have to limit my intake because I have a
stomach pain.
6. Are the servers there friendly to you?
→ Yes, they are. They are very friendly and helpful. They are always smiling all
the time.
7. Have you ever tried Italian food?
→ No, I haven’t but I hope to try it someday in the future.
8. Are you concerned about calories when eating out?
→ No, I am not.To be honest, I never really concerned about it. Because I'm
pretty skinny and I rarely eat out.
9. Are fast food restaurants like KFC or McDonald’s famous in your country?
→ Yes, of course. There are a few KFC restaurants here that are quite crowded,
mainly students
10. Do you often drink alcohol when eating out?
→ No, I don’t. Because I think it isn’t good for my health and moreover I have to
drive home.

TRAVEL
1. How many places have you travelled to?
→ I have travelled a lot of places such as Son La, Ha Long Bay, Ba Vang pagoda,
Tam Dao and so on.
2. Who do you usually go with?
→ I usualy go with my friends but sometimes with my family.
3. What’s your favourite tourist attraction?
→ My favourite tourist attraction is Tam Chuc pagoda. Because it is very
spacious here, the space is quiet and pure /pjʊr/, the air is so fresh and the
scenery /ˈsiː.nɚ.i/ of the mountains is majestic /məˈdʒes.tɪk/
4. Have you ever been abroad?
→ No, I haven’t but I look forward to being abroad one day in the future.

→ I often go for a walk, take photos, admire the scenery and people and enjoy the

→ I often get information the place I want to vist and prepare some money for my
trip.

→ When I travel, I often bring many things including: money, clothes, shoes,
camera, food and personal things.

→ I prefer traveling by train. Because I get car sick and when I travel by train, I
can see the mountains and many sceneries.

→ I want to travel alone because I can save a lot of money and go anywhere I
want.

PARTIES
1. On what occasions do people in your country celebrate parties?
→ In my country, people often celebrate parties on special days like birthdays,
weddings, Mid – autumn festival and Tet holiday.
2. Are you a party animal? (Do you like parties?)
→ Yes, of course. In the parties, I can eat and drink a lot of food, fruits and soft
drink. Especially /ɪˈspeʃ.əl.i/ This is wonderful opportunities to meet friends,
relatives and make new friends.

→ Most parties in Vietnam usually take place in the evening so they often start at
7 p.m and finish before 11 p.m. Except for some parties that will be held in the
morning.

→ The parties are usually held at home, in restaurants or sometimes in hotels.

→ I usually wear skirts to weddings and New Year's parties. However, some
formal parties I wear a white shirt and trousers.

→ In the parties, people often eat the food, drink, chat and sing together. They
also play some games.

→ No, I don’t. Because I think it isn’t good for my health and moreover I have to
drive home.

A TEACHER
1. Who is your favourite teacher? → My favourite teacher is my english teacher at high
school. She is the most
special and dedicated teacher I have ever studied

→ No, She isn’t. She is Vietnamese
3. What do you like about his/her lessons?
→ Her voice and interesting stories inspired me to love English
4. What’s she/he like?
→ Outside of school, she is very funny and friendly. In class, she is very strict,
enthusiastic and fair
5. What does she/he usually wear when coming to class?
→ She always wears very politely when going to class, usually a white shirt,
black pants /pænt/ and high heels /hiːl/.

→ Yes, I really like English because it helps me to talk to foreigners /ˈfɔːr.ə.nɚ/
and it is also an advantage for my future work.

→ Yes, I have. I was punished for being at the corner of the class and points were

A FRIEND
1. Who’s your best friend?
→ My best friend is Ngan who is the same age as me.

→ She is short and thin. With a round face, black eyes and short brown hair, she
looks quite cute and active.
3. How and when did you meet?
→ We are from the same hometown and next to each other, playing together since
our childhood and growing up together.
4. How often do you see this friend? → As I mentioned above, We live near each other,
so we meet everyday. We
often go to each other's house.
5. What’s s/he like?
→ She is so friendly, kind, generous and very hardworking. She always helps me
whenever I’m in trouble.

→ Yes, of course. In addition to being from the same hometown, the same age,
because we’ve played together since we were little girls, so we have the same
interests, dreams, and sometimes the same thoughts.

→ We often walk on the streets, sing, eat, study and play games together.
Sometimes, we go camping together.

→ Yes, she does. She's really a good cook, she always cooks meals when we're

→ I like many types of music such as Red music, acoustic, electronic, classical
and so on.

→ Yes, of course. People in my country really like that kind of music, the young
like electronic and acoustic, and older people like red music and country
music.
3. Who is your favourite singer?
→ I admire Ha Anh Tuan who is a famous singer in my country. Because his
voice is very attractive and his way of interacting /ˌɪn.t̬ ɚˈækt/ with his fans is
also very special.
4. What piece of music do you like? Who sang that song?
→ I love all of Ha Anh Tuan's songs, especially the song "only the memory
seasons" performed by him.
5. How much time a day do you spend listening to music?
→ I listen to music almost all day, both when studying and working and
anywhere.

→ Yes, of course. Listening to music helps me relieve /rɪˈliːv/ stress and fatigue

→ As I said above, listening to music brings a lot of benefits, it not only helps

about once 4 months. I love

→ I think it's quite modern, colorful and rich.

→ My name is Trang, a pretty common name.

→ I come from Thai Binh which is located in the North part of Vietnam and it is

→ Yes, of course. But I don't go shopping very often, because I have no money

supermarkets such as BigC, VinCom.

→ Yes, there are so many shops with different kinds of goods in my

→ Yes, I do. I always spend a lot of money when I go shopping, so I usually run

→ In my opinion, I think shopping online will be cheaper, faster and easier. But

SPORTS

→ I like badminton which has at least 2 participants.
2. Is it easy to play that sport?
→ Yes, it is. You only need to try once or twice and you can play and you need to
practice a lot to get better

→ Yes, of course. This sport is not only one of the most popular sports in my
country, but it is also very popular in countries around the world.

→ I have been practicing badmiton since I was 10 years old.
