January 2011 Update
New Quarter
With much gratitude to the Lord for his good hand upon our ministry, we started the new school term on January 10th. Although January is the month we always have the least number of students, we are excited that the Lord is giving us the opportunity to continue training key leaders around the world. A highlight for us is that the number of students taking the Spiritual Formation course continues growing. However, we are committed to not only offer courses on spiritual formation, but have at the core of our courses the development of Christian Character. 6 courses 43 students (11 taking 2 courses) 11 countries 14 nationalities 6 students from another school (Costa Rica and Spain)
Prayer requests
1. Please pray for our travel schedule in the next few weeks. Quique will be in WI, MN, and IL in February. From there he will fly to Florida, where we will be attending a missions related event, as well as meeting with pastors of Hispanic churches. We hope many leaders will enroll in our programs as a result of these activities. 2. The following day, after returning from Florida, Quique will travel to Panama to join a team that is designing a training program for Latin American missionaries going to fields around the world. 3. Pray also for our students, that they will have the strength from the Lord to finish well this term.
Q: A:
new course...
Quique and Dr. Gordon Pike are writing a new course on Research. We know that our students need to be equipped not only to study the Bible with accuracy, but they also need to be able to understand the world in which they are proclaiming it. This course, to be taught first time in September, will focus on qualitative research, with the goal of training leaders to better contextualize the gospel in their communities.
A virtual team
Success for any team is in many ways based on the quality of communication between its members. If this is difficult in face-to-face relationships, its even more challenging when people are scattered around the world. Weve faced that situation. Our professors, mentors, and administrators live and work in different countries. However, we praise the Lord that he has given us the right mix of expertise, experience, and skills. In fact, we pray, worship, work, and relate to one another, over the internet. Interestingly enough, our students witness that theyve been able to make friends for life as they pray for each other, interact among themselves every week, and share their life experiences and ministry. We certainly praise the Lord for giving us the opportunity to take training where leaders are, and for the kind of technology we need to communicate with our students.
Before going into full time ministry, Quique worked in Guatemala as an electrical engineer. One of his goals at that the was to make sure we had our own house, in which we could raise our family and live for the rest of our lives. Little did we know that the Lord had other plans for us, plans to call us into full time missionary service. in our 19 years as missionaries, weve seen our house only once, for a few minutes. A few days ago Becky went to see the house, and found that it needs significant repairs and renovation. As we realize that we need to be responsible with what the Lord has given us, we will start a process to fix the house and see if we can also use it for ministry. Please, pray for time, creativity, and resources for this project.
