History of Aerobics
History of Aerobics
History of Aerobics
Aerobics begins its impressive rise towards the sporting summit since 1968, where the renowned
and mentioned in various general theories, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, began to investigate and
understand the benefits that intense and/or constant work brings to the human body, as well
called today cardiovascular, especially for not only physical, but also mental aspects.
However, despite having already published a book, this occurred between the years 1971 and
1975; It was not until 1982 that Dr. Cooper was able to implement some of his techniques
described in the book, this given in the military field, since this design several tests with the
purpose of not only better training North American soldiers physically, but also to know therefore
the physical limitations that each of them had.
The virtues of aerobic exercise were not fully recognized by people in the United States, since
some populations did not even know this type of training; For this reason, the development of
videos and books promoted by the renowned actress Jane Fonda gave rise to the promotion of
aerobic exercises so that they went from being an activity for a few to one that was almost
mandatory for the masses.
It is worth mentioning that one aspect that made the acceptance and rise of aerobic exercise
difficult were some factors such as injuries, lack of support and how monotonous and boring the
routines of said exercise were; However, by the beginning of the nineties this changed radically
thanks to factors such as biomechanics and the study of physiology.
Research in areas such as physiology and biomechanics allowed aerobic exercises to take a truly
unexpected turn, since these two areas not only reduced the presence of the feared injuries, but
at the same time with the inclusion of new techniques and exercises They eliminated the boredom
and monotony present in aerobics; Not to mention that in turn the physical and physiological
virtues of this type of exercise increased.
By 1995, the adaptation of music, dance and body expression began to play a fundamental role in
aerobic exercises, since from these factors, group exercises and those so popular in current events
such as spinning and dance routines.
It should be noted that various contributions made by some sports such as boxing, karate and
swimming and others made by some practices such as yoga and tai chi, not only increased the
results of aerobic training, but also greatly helped people start to train under this modality
regardless of sporting or religious preferences. It is worth mentioning that the aforementioned
factors showed an advantage never expected by the creators of aerobic exercises, the elimination
of loads and mental strengthening, which attracted many people to this type of exercise.
Currently, aerobic exercise, as is known, is the most recognized type of exercise around the world,
not only for providing us with bodies and physiological health worthy of admiration, but at the
same time for presenting itself to us as a basic discipline for keep our mental health in a perfect
state.
TYPES OF AEROBIC
Circuit-Aerobics
In the circuit, as in any aerobics class, there are three parts, which are the warm-up, the main
part and the stretching and relaxation . We are going to explain a little what is done in each
of these parts.
In the warm-up , what is done are various walking and jumping exercises, walking in a lateral
line and arm exercises. At the end of a warm-up, a short stretch is always done.
The main part is made up of several exercises, the number of which depends on the number of
people practicing it. Some of those exercises can be:
Squats: with a bar behind the neck supported by the arms, you have to bend your legs up
and down.
Waist: holding a bar with your arms, you have to rotate your waist from one side to the
other.
Biceps: also holding a bar with your arms, you have to flex them.
Jump: This is jumping with a rope.
Pectoral: perhaps this is the most difficult to explain. You have to put your arms in front and
flex them. Then, you have to intertwine your fingers and bring your elbows together and
separate them, using force.
Body Styling
It's simple, athletic and fun. It is a program that uses the interval methodology where toning exercises
are combined with cardio and coordination training.
It is a comprehensive strengthening for the entire body. The areas identified as problematic
(abdomen, glutes, legs, arms and chest) are worked on by working with bands, dumbbells and balls.
Benefits . With this type of classes, an improvement in general physical fitness is achieved, muscles
are toned and many calories are burned due to aerobic work. In addition, you will do a complete job of
muscle toning, gain strength and endurance.
Duration . These types of classes are usually one hour long and include a warm-up, aerobic part,
toning exercises, abdominals, and stretching.
INTERVALL AEROBICS
It is a choreographed interval fitness program that combines low, medium and high intensity
aerobic exercises. During the class there are phases of cardiovascular training combined with
strength and resistance work that provide active recovery, it is ideal for any level of physical
condition. Provides great caloric expenditure, rapid improvement in general resistance, increase in
strength and muscle toning, improvement in cardio-respiratory endurance, increase in training
threshold, promotes fat burning, increases coordination and agility, helps in correct postural
alignment and increases bone density.
AEROBIC BOX
It improves self-esteem, tones arms and legs, and can be an excellent self-defense system.
We are talking about a new discipline. Boxing aerobics is a great aerobic exercise that
provides security, helps you release adrenaline, reduces stress and considerably increases
reflexes.
step aerobics
Step aerobics is a form of [[aerobic power]] distinguished from other types of aerobic exercise by
the use of an elevated platform (the step). The height can be adapted to individual needs by
inserting bands under the step. Step aerobics classes are offered at many gyms and fitness centers
that have a group exercise program.
Aerobics was innovated by Gin Miller around 1989. After a knee injury, Gin consulted with an
orthopedic doctor, who recommended he strengthen the muscles that support the knee by stepping
up and down on a milk crate and This developed the step regime.
Aquaerobics
What is Dance-Aerobics?
What it is : Dance-Aerobic is an aerobic training method that
combines dance with aerobics, developing choreographies to the
rhythm of music. Depending on the music used, several modalities are
distinguished: Gym-Jazz, Batuka, Ax... It is an intense and very fun
exercise.
Who is it suitable for : It is recommended for all types of people.
How much : two sessions a week of 45 minutes.
What qualities are developed : mainly aerobic capacity, general
strength, coordination and rhythm.
Necessary material : no specific material is necessary. It is practiced
in the gym in a group, with a trainer who directs the choreography.
DIGITAL AEROBIC
Digital aerobics is a type of effective physical exercise that is performed to the sound of music, on
dance platforms , and following the instructions of a computer program . It is considered a mix
between step , aerobics and video games , and like these, it is generally performed with disco
music, although it accepts any music prepared to work on the system. It offers the possibility of
being combined with any of the aerobic and step modalities, so it includes a varied and complete
exercise, being able to alternate between the different styles or combine them simultaneously
(following the arrows on the screen while performing other aerobic exercises ).
In addition to increasing Energy , Strength , Flexibility , Balance and especially Coordination are
trained. The latter is developed both physically and mentally, due to the attention required to
translate graphic elements into body movements. The pace of the digital aerobics sessions varies
depending on the age of the audience practicing it and the style of dance you want to perform. The
songs used in each session mark the intensity at each moment of the class.
TYPES OF DANCE
Meringue
The basic merengue is danced as if walking, one step is taken with each beat of
the music. The degree of movement of the hips varies according to personal
preference. It is considered an asymmetrical dance, since in the basic step, the
same leg is used at the beginning of each new measure. In most spin
combinations both partners dance the basic step; However, some movements in
particular allow the hips to synchronize better if one of the dancers performs a
zero weight shift, that is, simply taps the foot with no weight shift on the
ground, rather than stepping with it. . The synchronization of the hips is
normally the responsibility of the person who guides; since it is easier than
having the next person do it. Mastering the synchronization of the hips (and
therefore the feet) gives an added advantage, since there are more
combinations of turns in merengue than in salsa, because it is possible to alter
the coordination of arms, legs and weight change at any time during the dance.
Dip
As a dance, its steps were practiced in Cuba long before the name was
invented. With the "boom", brought about by the North American record
industry, it spread throughout all the countries of South and Central America,
becoming richer and adopting slightly different characteristics in different
areas. Thus, the salsa that is danced in Peru, in Chile, in Puerto Rico, in Cuba or
in New York, have differences.
Salsa prevails with more and more force, despite the difficulty that, for the
European dancer, its rhythm found. To learn how to dance salsa well, you have
to forget about partner dances and spend some time learning the basic step
separately.
Talking about rock'n roll is talking about an entire era and a generation, a
music, a dance, a way of dressing, of seeing life.
If the Waltz marked the first great revolution in the world of dance, the era of
rock & roll, in the 1950s, marks the second great revolution; the first clear
example of generational music and an unprecedented phenomenon in the
history of popular music.
In the postwar years, Americans of color sought ways to express their identity.
Through music and dance - rhythm and blues - they found their most traditional
way of asserting themselves. The evolution of this sound and the incorporation
of elements of country music, more familiar to whites, represented the greatest
revolution in the history of popular music.
Mambo
The Mambo is one of the Latin dances that has the most followers in the
Western world. Brought to Europe from the great fashion that spread through
the United States, due to its half-prohibited nature, the Mambo has been the
protagonist of great films such as the one starring Antonio Banderas, "The
Mambo Kings" or "Dirty Dancing" by Patrick Swayze.
It was the first Latin rhythm that was exported outside the Caribbean.
Considered by some as the father of Latin dances, its origin is still debated by
different experts in the field. According to Oscar Hijuelo, author of the book
"The Mambo Kings play love songs" (a work on which the film of the same name
starring Antonio Banderas was based), «the African slaves, tied by the ankles
with a heavy and annoying chain, to To make time pass faster, they danced the
rumba, moving their hips a lot to limit the movement of their feet. When the
chains were broken, they invented a more sensual, fast and agile dance: the
mambo. Everyone goes crazy when they dance it, as if they were walking on hot
coals.
Tango
He was born in the middle of the least favored neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.
Fruit of the carnal desire of men who went to Argentina in the 19th century in
search of fortune, tango was initially danced among men, since women refused
to dance it because it was a choreography that had explicitly sexual
connotations.
As Manuel Castelló states in his work Los Bailes de Pareja, "dancing a tango
properly is tantamount to shamelessly simulating a love affair in public."
