Instructions Ford Ranger Obdi Codes
1.1
Locate the two plugs needed to perform the test on your Ranger. These are in the engine
compartment, near the fender, on the driver's side, behind the air filter housing. One is
called a self-test plug (STP) and is triangular in shape with six pins. The other cap has a
label that says entry self-test (ITS). This plug is a small, single-prong plug. These plugs may
also be called "EEC TEST."
2.2
Connect a cable from the negative battery terminal to the STI. Ground the STI by attaching
another piece of metal. Ground the battery as well, hooking another cable to the bumper.
3.3
Turn the truck key to turn the vehicle on completely. You will hear the fuel pump. When
the fuel pump stops priming the system, it will be necessary to start counting.
4.4
Look at the check engine light. It will start flashing several times and then stop. This is a
warning that the test is beginning. A code will flash and then there will be a two second
pause, indicating that it is moving to the next code number. Once the code is finished, there
will be a four second pause. If you miss a number, turn the key to the "Off" position, wait 15
seconds, and then turn it back to "On." This will restart the sequence. You may have to go
through the test several times until you get all the code numbers.
5.5
Write each of these numbers.
6.6
Consult a repair or service manual for your 1993 Ford Ranger truck or use an online
resource, such as FordFuelInjection.com, to determine what the codes mean. Please note
that there are different lists for two and three numeric codes.
