1. Calculate the current drawn from the battery in the given network.

2. Find the charge on each of the capacitors0.20msafter the switch S is closed in the
figure.

3. A battery of emf 12V and internal resistance 2 Ω is connected to a 4 Ω resistor as

shown in the figure.
a. Show that a voltmeter when placed across the cell and across the resistor ,in
turn, given the same reading.
b. To record the voltage and the current in the circuit ,why is voltmeter placed in
parallel and ammeter in series in the circuit?

4. Two unequal resistances R1and R2 are connected across two identical batteries of emf ε
and internal resistance r. Can the thermal energies developed in R1 and R2 be equal
in a given time? If yes, what will be the condition?

5. Two metallic wires of the same material have the same length but cross-sectional areas
are in the ratio 1 : 2.They are connected (i)in series and (ii)in parallel. Compare the drift
velocities of electrons in the two wires in both the cases(i)and (ii).
6. The potential difference across the terminals of a battery of emf 12V and internal
resistance2Ω drops to 10V when it is connected to a silver voltammeter. Find the silver

deposited at the cathode in half an hour. Atomic weight of silver is107.9g/mole.
7. A metal rod of square cross-sectional area A having length l has current I flowing through
it when a potential difference of V volt is applied across its ends (figure I).Now the rod is
cut parallel to its length in to two identical pieces and joined as shown in figure
II. What potential difference must be maintained across the length 2l so that the current
in the rod is still I?

8. A 10V cell of negligible internal resistance is connected in parallel across a battery of

emf200V and internal resistance 38Ωasshown in the figure. Find the value of current in
the circuit.

9. A cell of emf E and internal resistance r is connected to two external resistances R1 and
R2and a perfect ammeter. The current in the circuit is measured in four different
situations:
i. Without any external resistance in the circuit.
ii. With resistance R1only.
iii. With R1 and R2 in series combination.
iv. With R1 and R2 in parallel combination.
The currents measured in the four cases are 0.42 A,1.05 A,1.4 A and 4.2 A, but not
necessarily in that order. Identify the currents corresponding to the four
Cases mentioned above.

current in the circuitis0.2A.Whatwouldbe the potential difference between points
Band E?

capacitor in terms of V.
