Detailed Lesson Plan In Math 2

I. Objectives:

At the end of the 50-minute lesson, the students should be able to:

a. identify what is grams and kilograms;

b. demonstrate accuracy in weighing;and

c. appreciate the importance of grams and kilograms in the usage

to our daily life.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Estimate and Measures Mass using gram and kilogram

Materials: scale, PPT, TV, Visual aids, pictures

III. Methodology

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
May I request everyone to please
stand for a prayer.
Our Father, Amen…….. Our Father, Amen……….

2. Greetings
Good morning Class! Good morning Ma’am Noime Good
morning classmates!
3. Attendance
Who are absent today? None, Ma’am

4. Assignments
Is there any assignment? None Ma’am

5. Review
What was your lesson yesterday? (The students will answer)
B. Developmental Activities
A. Motivation
Sing the “Fruit salad song” (The students sing actively)
C . Presentation

Anna and Rose buy fruits in the market.

Anna bought 500 grams(g) of apple, and
Rose bought 3 kilograms (kg) of strawberry.

Say: the apples weigh 500 grams(g), while

the strawberry weigh 3 kilograms (kg).

Ask: Which is heavier? Apple or

Strawberry? Why?

D. Discussion:

Measuring Weight or Mass

 Grams and kilograms are units of

weight. Gram is also written as g. A
gram is about as light as paper clip. A
gram is used to measure light objects.

 Kilogram is also written as kg. A

kilograms is used to measure heavy
objects. A weighing scale is the
instrument used to measure weight.

 There are 1000 grams in 1 kg

(1000g=1kg). To convert grams to
kilograms divide by 1000.

Example: 1000g=______kg

1000÷1000=1 kg

 To covert kilograms to grams, multiply

by 1000

Example: 2kg=________g

2x1000= 2000g

Problem 1:

Lola Oria cooked 2kg of chicken and 4000g

of pork for her grandchildren. How many
kilograms of meat did she cook than
chicken?

Let’s Compare:

Chicken- 2kg=2000g

Since 1kg=1000g, multiply 2kg by 1000.

2x1000=2000

Pork- 4kg=4000g

Since 1kg=1000g, divide 4000 by 1000

4000÷1000=4

Therefore: Lola Oria cooked more pork than

chicken. Pork is 2 kg or 2000 g more than
chicken.
Problem 2:

Anna and Rose buy fruits in the market.

Anna bought 6000grams(g) of apple, and
Rose bought 5 kilograms (kg) of strawberry.

Let’s Compare:

Apple- 5kg= 5000g

Since 1kg=1000g, multiply 5kg by 1000.

5x1000=5000

Strawberry- 6kg=6000g

Since 1kg=1000g, divide 6000 by 1000

6000÷1000=6

Therefore: Anna bought more fruits than

Rose.

Always remember the abbreviation of

grams is g and the kilograms is kg, and in
measuring and comparing different masses
of objects we use the key term such as
greater than (>), less than (<) or equal (=).

E. Group Activity

I will divide the class into 4 groups.

Group 1- Compare the objects in each set.

Check the one that is heavy, cross out the
one that is light.

Group 2- Solve the following problems.

Problem 1: Lucia’s mother helped her

daughter carry the newspaper for the
school newspaper drive project. The
newspaper weighed 8 kilograms. Convert it
into grams.
Solution:

Problem 2: My mother bought 6kg of dried

beans and 9000g of peanut. How many
kilograms of meat did she cook than
chicken?

Solution:

Group 3- Write the symbols. >,<,=

1.200g____100g

2. 1000g____2kg

3. 5kg_____5000g

4. 10kg_____2000g

5. 6000g_____6kg

Group 4- Read and solve.

F. Application: (Students presentation of output)

I will call some students to answer the
following question.

1. Its abbreviation is g, what measurement

is it?

2. Its abbreviation is kg, what measurement

is it?

3. What is 4000g to kg?

4. What is 10 kg to g?

5. What is 5 kg to g?

G. Generalization:

What have we discussed today class? (estimating and measuring gram and
How to convert gram to kilogram? kilogram)

(to convert grams to kilograms divide by

How to convert kilogram to gram? 1000.)

(to convert kilogram to gram multiply by

1000.)
IV. Evaluation:

Direction:Compare the weight. Write <,>,=.

1. 5kg of beef______ 400 g of onions.

2. 500 g of sugar______1kg of powdered

milk.

3. 90 g of pepper______2kg of salt.

4. 4kg of pork_____4000g of chicken

5. 3kgof mango_____3000g of lanzones

V. Assignment:

Direction: Read the following questions

and answer. Which one is heavier? or
lighter?.

1. A bag of apples weigh 2 kg. How much

heavier is it than a bag of oranges that
weights 1.5 kg?

2. A box of oranges weighs 4 kg. How much

lighter is it than the box of apples that
weighs 5kgs.

3. A bag of bananas weighs 6kg. How much

heavier is it than a box of grapes that
weighs 4kg?

4. A bag of peanuts weighs 2 kg. How much

lighter is it than a box of almonds that
weighs 3 kg?

5. A bag of rice weighs 5kg. How much

heavier is it than a bag of flour that weight
2kg?
