the Mean of their height?
a. 4ft
b. 5.8ft
c. 5ft
d. 6.8ft

C. Acquisition
The most commonly used of central position is arithmetic average or
mean. The Mean is the sum of the item values divided by the number of
items.

To compute the mean of an ungroup data,

∑x
Use the formula: x= n
Where: ∑x = Sum of the items value
n = Number of items

Illustrative example:
Solve the Mean of 3, 8, 19, 11, and 3.

x = 3+8+10+11+3
5
x = 35
5
x= 7

Solve the Mean of 10, 4, 2, 8, and 15.

x = 10+4+3+8+15
5
x = 40
5
x= 8

Understand? (Yes, sir)

Let see if you really understand and know how to get the average/mean,
(board work)

D. Make-meaning.

The math scores of 5 students are 85, 80, 88,84,87,89, 83,80,94 and 90
what is the mean?

∑x
Sol’n: x=
n
x = 86+80+88+84+87+89+83+80+94+90
10
x = 861
10
x = 86.1

The grade in Statistics of 10 students are 82, 85, 79, 78, 87, 88, 89, 75,
89, and 77. What is their average grade?
∑x
Sol’n : x= n
82+85+79+78+ 87+88+89+ 75+77+89
x=
10
829
x=
10
= x=82.9

The scores of students in a math test are 5, 9, 4, 7, 8, 6, 3, 5, 5, and 6.

What is the mean?

∑x
Sol’n: x=
n
x = 5+9+4+7+8+6+3+5+5+6
10
x = 58 x = 5.8
10

What is Mean?

How do we solve Mean?

How can you apply or use the Mean in real life situation?

Very good!

Find the Mean.

1. A list of five test scores were 60, 67, 63, 73 and 67.
2. Seven people from Mlang were asked how many minutes they lived
from work. The responses were 15, 7, 14, 21, 5, 9, and 13.
3. At SBC, a survey was taken asking how many cats each person had.
The results were: 2, 5, 3, 1, 0, 4, 2, 7, 0, 2, 7, and 3.
4. A sample of eight students were randomly selected and asked, “how
many times did you check your email yesterday?” the numbers are:
3,0,8,7,10,2,6, and 12.

Each group will explain how they get the mean/ average. (Based on
their activity.)
Group 1 Present your answer
Group 2 Present your answer
Group 3 Present your answer
Group 4 Present your answer

Very Good! Let’s give each group mommy Dionisa clap, Five clap, Five
Stomp and say beri gud! beri gud! beri gud!

2. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Solve for the Mean of ungroup data. Show your solution. 5pts each.
(5pts Each).
1. A teacher told the class that he would use the mean value of students
test scores to determine their final grade. If Mary’s grade in math is
90, English is 85, science is 80, P.E is 85, and Filipino is 99 what will
be her Average?
2. The SBC basketball members practice shooting. It is a preparation for
the PRISAA. Their shooting scores are as follow: 21, 23, 34, 19, 15, 36
and 15
III. Product
Assignment: ¼ Sheet of paper
A teacher told the class that he would use the mean value of students’ test
scores to determine their final grade. If Mary’s scored 90, 85, 80, 85, and 100 on her
exam, what will be her final grade?
